What are the classes the first year at UL? Is it just general classes and how difficult is it?

Any degree'd engineer in the oil field with a strong work ethic will make more than enough money to pay back any student loans that you may stack up. There is a lot of money to be made in the oilfield if you are willing to do the work.

I have been working for a "major" service company for only two years and will top 6 figures. It is not MD type money but more than I ever imagined I would make when I was in college. I will be stepping away from that
career field in the near future to pursue something else but it is not a "not enough" money issue.

Things can always change in the industry, but from everything I have seen we will remain busy for the foreseeable future.

I can definitely echo this sentiment as well, it blows my mind everyday. I graduated in ITEC in the fall of 11 and pretty much just fell into what I do currently, now it sucked at first but if you keep your head down and plug away you'll be just fine.

Now I am wondering about loans (because my parents will not cosign or give me any payment)
Basically how can I pay for 8k dorm + meal program?
I think I can get a pell grant (5,730) so tuition is around 6k I think.

Again, talk to Drs. Zappi and Boukadi. If your grades are good thee are a number of industry related scholarships that you might qualify for. Even if they do nto pay a full ride (few do) it can help.

What type of grades are necessary? Also I emailed both of them (two weeks ago) & still didn't get a response.

My mom is threatening suicide unfortunately. Every time I try to tell her I want to do petroleum engineering, she is saying it is killing her on the inside and that she is getting chest pain.

I understand your (actually it is her problem) BUT I have never heard of anyone turning down their nose at an engineer!

For what it is worth, in the US, my friends and relatives that are doctors are not recommending this career to anyone, especially their family members. Obamacare and a few other factors weigh heavily in this regard.

As was posted earlier, you have to follow your heart ... that is why med school was so hard for you!

I'm 19 however I don't know how I will pay for this school.... Will loans be able to pay for me? I am independent and my parents won't give me any aid because I want to do this instead of medicine.
