Helen Cox's Dion Ray sold on chance to play quarterback for Ragin' Cajuns
Several SEC programs were after Helen Cox's Dion Ray. But Ray was after the chance to play quarterback at the next level. Louisiana-Lafayette gave him that chance so Ray gave the Cajuns his commitment Wednesday.
"That's my dream — to play quarterback on the college level," he said. "I don't want to play any other position and they are one of the only schools that want to give me the opportunity at that."
Ray, 6 feet, 195 pounds, had schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arizona State recruiting him as an athlete, but the success of undersized quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Johnny Manziel at both the college and professional levels gave Ray hope he'd get the opportunity under center in college.
"Being a quarterback is what I am," Ray said. "It's the only thing I've ever known."
Ray, No. 29 in the Nifty 50, said he feels like he made a "great decision" picking a school that "appreciates" his talents and that his visit helped seal the deal.
"It felt like love when I went out there," he said.
