South Louisiana PublishingLOUISIANA La. — Maybe all it took for Dallas Morris to start hitting was the coming of spring.
“I like the warm weather a lot better than the cold,” said Louisiana’s sophomore third baseman. “I feel like I play better in it, but I don’t know if it really has anything to do with it.”
Morris had his best hitting series of the season for the Ragin’ Cajun baseball squad at New Mexico State last weekend, hitting .500 with a pair of extra-base hits in leading the Louisiana squad to a team .358 average in those three games.
Ragin’ Cajun head coach Tony Robichaux has a different theory, and it’s one that he hopes continues both for Morris and for the rest of his infield.
“He’s getting a lot more comfortable in the role he’s in,” said Robichaux, whose team is aiming for a Sun Belt Conference home series against Arkansas-Little Rock beginning Friday. “When he’s been at shortstop, that’s a lot of pressure and that can affect your hitting.
“When he is back at third base, his body language shows that he’s more comfortable, and the pressure’s off.”
