These games at Baylor this week are big, certainly not the most important games left on the schedule but they could play a huge role in us potentially getting a national seed.

Not playing that Nicholl's game is going to be a blessing

Not the most important? Without those wins, we have NO chance at a national seed. We win those two, and win the rest of the way (which we should), I DARE the selection committee not to give us a national seed.

"Yes and you daring them will do a lot of good."

And it also can't hurt, since they have no idea I'm daring them.

True but even winning both, if we bow out in the conference tourney it won't be good. I guess what I meant was every game is important, if we want that top seed.

I think I will agree with you though that winning those games would carry the most weight

  10. Default Re: 4/21 softball rpi

If the season ended today, I think you are probably looking at the following .

    National Seed (locks)
    #2 Alabama
    #1 Florida
    #5 Oregon
    #4 UCLA

National Seed (potentials . in order) . 4 spots for the following 6
    #3 Georgia
    #10 Arizona State
    #6 Louisiana/#7 Michigan/#8 Florida State
    #12 Tennessee

The final four of Louisiana/Michigan/Florida State/Tennessee are very close. Louisiana has the highest RPI . but has the worst record vs. the RPI Top 50 (8-7) among the group (of four). They are second in the group vs. RPI Top 25 (6-4). This is why the games vs. Baylor and any upcoming games vs. South Alabama in the conference tournament are so important. Louisiana and Michigan would be conference champions of the #4 and #5 RPI conferences respectively. Tennessee is tied for 2nd (Tennessee/Missouri/Kentucky) in the #1 SEC. Florida and Georgia follow, one game back.

It would be nice if WKU could rally and move into the RPI Top 50 (currently #69). South Alabama needs to stay in the RPI Top 25 (currently #19).

Keep in mind that with winning the regular season we're already into the semi-final round of the tournament. That means you'd probably be playing South Al, Western, or Georgia State in their first game.

I kind of wish the baseball tourney was set up that way.

If we end up the 1 seed, we avoid 2 and 3 so most likely no WKU or USA until the next day in the winner's bracket game assuming you win.

Also, you only need 3 wins to get through, so less games against lower RPI and seeded teams and possibly 2 against a USA or WKU.

Yea, how would you feel about Robe going against someone's number 3 and baranik going against number 4. Guess that is why baseball doesn't work that way
