LAFAYETTE- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team got off to a great start, opening their season with an impressive win this past weekend at the UL Invitational. The tournament was delayed a couple times during the weekend because of rain in the Lafayette area. The rain cancelled the doubles portion of the tournament but the Cajuns didn't let that dampen their spirits as they fought off 12 other teams to take home the championship.

The tournament boasted several teams from the southern portions of the United States, including three teams ranked in the top 35 nationally. UL won three out of the four possible flights; this was the first time in 10 years that the team had accomplished that task. Winning flights for the Cajuns were junior Piotr Banas (ranked #61 in the nation), freshman Javier Pulgar-Garcia and senior Arlen Domoney.

"This is a great start for the new year for our team, I think the guys really dug deep and focused hard to win a highly competitive tournament," said head coach Mark Jeffery.

The competition does not get any easier as next the Cajuns will travel to the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas Sept. 26-28. The tournament will consist of many teams ranked in the nations top ten. Following the Baylor Invitational, the Cajuns will travel to the All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Oct. 4.
