Thread: Other action ...

  1. UL Baseball Other action ...

Alabama just stole one on the road vs. Tennessee. The Vols led 6-1 going into the 6th inning. But Alabama erupted for two in the 6th, three in the 7th, and one in the 9th (HBP with bases loaded and two outs) to win 7-6. Alabama is an impressive 12-5 in conference play (#1 in the SEC) and the SEC West is setting up for a big series in Baton Rouge the weekend of May 9th (LSU is now 10-7-1) ... beginning with Turnbull vs. Nola.

The Cajuns needed this as some other games have not gone their way. Kentucky takes care of Texas A&M again ... and Rice continues to win, despite missing their ace and #2/closer. Rice needed extras to defeat UAB and is temporarily ahead of the Cajuns at #10 in the RPI (does not included Alabama result).

Meanwhile, Texas is trying to avoid the sweep at the hands of TCU ... The Longhorns lead TCU in Austin 1-0 T7th with one out and a runner at 2nd base.

The South Carolina - Auburn game (Game #2 of DH) can be seen on CBS Sports. The freshman right-hander Keegan Thompson of Auburn is a good one. South Carolina finally broke through for a run in the T7th ... but Thompson got out of the jam and Auburn leads 2-1 going to the B7th. South Carolina has really struggled with the injuries to its lineup lately.

Florida State and Wake Forest are in extras (10th) tied at 3.

Southern Mississippi just knocked off Louisiana Tech 1-0. The Golden Eagles go for the sweep tomorrow.

We keep winning, but still drop in rpi. It's a tough pill to swallow.

We have several underachievers left on the schedule who will play us like it is their CWS, like UT Arlington has. Nobody said it would be easy, though

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. Just think of it as post season training.

Don't look now but LSU is 14 in RPI. I will be sick to my stomach if we have to go there for a super.

The RPI is not dropping due to the two wins this weekend at UT-Arlington. Those wins have resulted in a very small gain (because they are road games).

The same thing that buffered our fall when we lost to New Orleans (our opponents winning) has given some back in the last week. Meanwhile, you also have some teams making moves that benefit from better schedules.

The Cajuns need to be careful ... they do not have room for error. Last night or today easily could have been a loss vs. UT-Arlington.

LSU could easily finish with a slightly higher RPI ... but it does not mean they would be chosen as a #1 seed or a national seed over the Cajuns.

Fortunately, LSU has Tulane on the schedule at home this week ... and hosts Alcorn State next week (dumb scheduling move). Also, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Auburn are not huge helps in RPI ... but not bad. But if they win 7/9 ... they will be looking good. The big series will be the one at home vs. Alabama. Alabama needs to win that series.

I would prefer to see a handful of much better arms to prepare for the postseason. That is my one concern. It has been a while since Alabama. You can argue that the Cajuns have faced one elite arm this season.

Yeah, that is a legitimate concern.

The thing I'm worried about is that it seems like the Cajuns have no room for error down the stretch if they want to be a national seed.

TCU leads Texas 3-1 B9th, 1 out, bases loaded.

Auburn had the bases loaded in the B8th with no outs ... and failed to pad their 2-1 lead. South Carolina responded with two runs in the T9th and Seddon came on to close the game for his 10th save. South Carolina will remain ahead of the Cajuns in the RPI for now.
