Here is why the Hyphen is illegal

D. All uses of the name "University of Louisiana" must be followed by the word "at" and the institution's geographic location. No typographic variations within the name are permitted. The word "at" must be no less than 50% and the geographic location must not exceed 100% nor be less than 80% of the University of Louisiana name. Any institutional use of "University of Louisiana" without the "at" and geographic location is prohibited.

----So T-Bine as you get rid of the hyphens you also add another important part of the law to the mixture---it states that the word "AT" MUST follow Louisiana---Now it is used all the time as Louisiana Lafayette but there is no "University of Louisiana" before it only Louisiana---wonder if this could be interpreted as a problem that at should be used all the time and possibly further the cause to just use Louisiana instead of the at!!! I can only assume their non specific intent but I believe that when they forbid all typographic variations of "at" they had @ in mind. However since they were not specific they also outlawed hyphens as a variation.

This is nothing but a Jim Crow style law used to attempt to keep UL down. Why do you guys give this garbage any respect? Let's see them stand up and say that we are not Louisiana. It in no way dictates that the school cannot refer to their teams as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. It does not specifically prohibit the use of UL, La, LA, or LU as the monicker to identify with it's athletic programs. It does specifically state that when anyone "from the university or it's support groups refer to themselves, and they specifically refer to "University" they must then use the muckity muck to go with it. It in no way prohibits the use of Louisiana alone in any naming of athletic program team or for branding purposes. That's the way I read it. Someone who sees something else & really sees it & isn't infering it, can tell me I'm wrong. But make certain it specifically states when the school MUST use at Lafayette.

The legacy of Huey Long still runs deep. Understand thy enemy. Remember Tech tried a takeover of LSUS a few years back and got swatted like a fly? If the flagship feels threatened (which doesn’t take much), they will use their minions. Why do you think they’ll never be a non LSU med or law school funded with public money? Bought allegiance.

I understand wanting to take this on legislatively, but us older guys know how it will end. Epic egg on the face of UL.

WW II era fighter aircraft. The university doesn't even follow the law academically by not using "at Lafayette". See the official logo. Any wonder people still refer to us as Louisiana Lafayette? Yet, look at the university e-News logo. This is the closest thing to what I am suggesting in the logos we should use exclusively.

We are our own worse enemy regarding our name. No consistency, no real guidance. There is no reason to use LOUISIANA athletically only. We can use it academically as well. Just modify our official logos. We still reflect the required legal use of "at Lafayette", but the emphasis is on LOUISIANA, similar to what TEXAS does with their official log. It would be our most effective, consistent branding. We are now the leading university in the UL System with an R1 Carnegie ranking. Let's now take a bold step in the right direction. I am going to send this to T-Joe with my recommendation.
