The pertinent part of the law is "All uses of the name "University of Louisiana" must be followed by the word "at" and the institution's geographic location. No typographic variations within the name are permitted."

Leaving it blank between UL and Lafayette is a disqualification.

Better for all second references to just say "Louisiana" be legal and be done with it.

It's not posted, but there was a clarification insert in part of the law that I found really humorous and ironical. Especially considering the focus of the law.

In the law they found it cumbersome to repeat "University of Louisiana System."

So embedded in the law that is asking for full name and added location in every utterence it stated (paraphrase) All future references to "University of Louisiana System." will referenced as "SYSTEM"

Interesting and great catch….. so our problem isnt that in their eyes we have tried to shorten it with use of just one word, it is that they prefer use of the last word.

These people actually believe that. So, they'll call us a "directional school" while simultaneously claim that our brand can damage them. It's hilarious watching their pretzel twisting and justification for seeing us try to brand ourselves a certain way.
    Nice post.

And the bad part of that is there are actual politicians that think that way. Some of the younger guys amongst us were not around for the name fight, or forget their hiring of the NASA director as their president to get big IT donors to leave UL to LSU.

The name game is being won by the fans and supporters. Stay consistent. ____ing contests just result with everyone smelling like urine.

Our administration walks a tight rope from time to time over it. They can’t just say f it and go all in. But they surely get consistent with canning the extra L and Lafayette with incoming orientation for starters. They should come up with a plan. Oh wait…

AND that's why before they start calling the school University of Louisiana at Johnston they need rename it "Louisiana" down to Abbeville

ps I'm surprised it hasn't been called University of Louisiana at University in Alumni News.

Some of our politicians definitely think that way. I know one who did. The second he started to actually lobby with UL on certain issues, he saw the value of our university and guess what? He calls us UL now. That’s part of the problem. These people live in that purple and gold bubble that they can’t see the forest beyond the trees. And they also don’t realize that these ridiculous efforts to thwart progress with other schools not named Louisiana State U actually HURT the state more than help it.

And here is cranial rectalitis on our part…shaping our “Lafayette” future.

It’s simple…use the University of Louisiana at Lafayette all over the OFFICIAL editorial credit page of publications…and don’t use it again.

Wouldnt worry about potential damage to their brand contradict their claim that they dont care about us?

I talked to a guy once who used my name in almost every sentence. That's what this reminds me of, how often can we insert this combo. keep using it before we forget.
