Sun Belt gets new bowl game in Orlando vs. AAC

Great another crappy bowl. College football postseason is the worst of any major sport.

It's the truth...regardless of how much fun we have all had in New Orleans the past 3 years...it's a meaningless game that is an archaic remnant of college football that the ones making the money don't want to give up...because they know in a playoff they get...NOTHING.

It's not meaningless. I DO understand that it's a game created for the "money-gobblers" but you can't name one college player that thinks a BOWL game is meaningless and unnecessary... No way are these games not important to the student athlete, much less the coaching staffs and fans!

I agree. having said that. It's a hell of a lot nicer to think of going to Orlando in December than it would be Detroit, Boise Idaho, or even Memphis Tennessee. If you have to drive eight hours, why not suck it up & drive another five to have SeaWorld, DisneyWorld, & Universal all at your fingertips. Not to mention gorgeous weather for that time of year.

Having said that. What in the hell is the Sunbelt rewarding a state who just had two schools snub their noses at the conference? Oh that's right. Beggars can't be choosers. So, having stated all the obvious. Why can't Lafayette have their own bowl game with one of the teams from whatever conference Louisiana happens to be in as one of the guest teams? Think about it people. Think about the economic impact of a bowl game right here in Lafayette. I can see it now. The Gumbo Bowl, The Louisiana Hot Sauce Bowl, Or the Tobasco Bowl. I feel another thread rising up. Think about a Cajun Heritage museum dedicated to Cajun traditions which if anybody watches television is the absolute hottest ticket item on television these days. Why not take advantage of it & have a bowl with fun, festivities, super great music, and the best food in the whole damn world right here in our own back yard. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have our very own team in it every other year or so. It would be easy to get commitments from multiple sponsors and make this one of the best bowls of all the stinking bowls in the country.

But alas. It takes more than one loud mouth poster to make things like this happen. It takes vision, leadership, courage, and commitment by those who can. I don't guess Tony Chacherie's group, the Mcilhenys, or any of our world wide food speciaty groups would want a part of a four hour long television commercial which does nothing but make millions of people's mouths water in lust for their products.

It's the only thing around...they know nothing else. If there was a 16 team playoff similar to FCS...bowl games would mean ti ti...very little. Until they know an alternative...how could we know if it was meaningless them?

After we finish the renovation of Cajun Field...it should be something we push for. It could be a big boon to the local businesses...why not get in on the cash grab ourselves.
