RPI from 11 to 9? I thought we were supposed to stay still even with a sweep? Apparently our opponents did well? Brian any help here

Had to step out as we approached the top of the 8th. Before the pup kicked in I listen to the local radio and TooLame had an opportunity to help us. Man on second down a run vs Rice. Of course they faltered.
I know this is a tread about kicking that Metro UALR Azzes, but TooLame could have helped us by beating Rice, and making our wins look better as they would have had wins vs LSU, and Rice.
Cajuns need to sweep this series and probably will.
The answers are in the same post from which you arrived at that thought. This is what I stated in another thread (note the bolded text) ...

"I have not run the numbers yet, but given a sweep of UALR just by itself would result in a modest drop in the Cajuns' RPI (currently at .6026). The Cajuns would need help from their opponents to tread water ... and considerable help to log an RPI gain."

Well ... the Cajuns' RPI did drop ... from .6027 entering the day to .6014 after Friday's action. Despite some help from Cajun opponents yesterday. By itself (UALR game), the Cajuns would have dropped more (but still a modest drop as I stated). It does help some that the Cajuns' winning percentage is contributing to their own OOWP when they play UALR. But not enough to be neutral with a win (modest drop).

"That said, the teams around the Cajuns are packed rather tightly. If those teams do not perform adequately, the Cajuns could possibly move up in RPI ranking ... despite their RPI dropping".

As far as RPI ranking is concerned, this is exactly what happened. A few teams took bigger RPI hits with losses. Kentucky (losing to a mediocre Missouri team at home) and Vanderbilt lost to a middle of the pack Texas A&M team at home. Because of the opponents (and losing at home), these were big enough hits to drop them below the Cajuns.
Other teams around the Cajuns also took a hit ... UNLV, Florida State, and Houston. It is still rather packed between #3 and #13 (.6086 -> .5950) ... and #2 is also not far away at .6147. South Carolina is comfortable at #1 (.6343). With their remaining schedule, LSU could make a run for the Top 8 if they continue to win.
Always look at RPI first ... then look at the RPI ranking (if you want to understand why).

..
South Carolina, Virginia and Fla. State all lose today (Fla St. Loses series, trying not to get swept tomorrow)
so I'm assuming that will help our rpi ranking a lil bit
Not necessarily but it doesn't help other teams we are fighting against for top RPI's RPI... My post had more to do with poll rankings...
#7 rpi tonight
Not doubting your opinion Brian just see that the RPI can be so erratic. I was expecting at best one spot jump with a sweep but I'll just keep checking every week and get surprised.
