UL Nursery Lab Destroyed by Fire

LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana will determine where to relocate its popular nursery school lab destroyed by a fire during Hurricane Gustav.

Later this month, the school is expected to reopen in a temporary location while the university works out a plan for the school, said Nancy Coghill, the school’s director.

The school was destroyed Monday as Hurricane Gustav rolled through Lafayette.

The preliminary fire investigation found that a downed electrical line fell on the school and sparked a fire.

While the Fire Department was able to respond and quickly extinguish the blaze, the building, estimated at $350,000, is a total loss, according to William Crist, UL’s physical plant director.

Wasn't this building slated for a million dollar renovation? If so, does anyone know how this now effects the plans? I know they have to rebuild, but are they now just gonna rebuild with nicer amenities or are they gonna use the insurance money and the monies designated for renovations to build a top of the line facility?
