Thread: Jennifer Martin Commits to Lady Cajuns Softball

  1. UL Softball Jennifer Martin Commits to Lady Cajuns Softball

UL - Jennifer Martin, a senior shortstop at St. Thomas More, grew up dreaming of playing softball at UL.

Martin recently came closer to making that dream a reality, verbally committing to sign with the Cajuns during the early signing period, which is Nov. 12-19.

"When I was younger I went and watched them play," said Martin, who picked the Cajuns over LSU. "I always wanted to go to UL, even before they made it to the College World Series (in 2008)."

Martin hit .375 with six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBIs as a junior. She also earned honorable mention all-state and first team All-Acadiana honors after hitting .476 in district play to lead the Lady Cougars within one game of the Class 5A state tournament.

As a junior, Martin hit .444 and was an all-state selection as STM won the Class 4A state title.

"UL is a wonderful school," Martin said. "They have a great team, and it's close to home. I like the fact my family could come and watch me play. The coaching is good, and the team is awesome."

Joshua, great article on this young lady and the other STM SR. which committed to LSU.

My plea to you Joshua is, in the future please keep in mind that this is Lafayette, Louisiana home of your paper and home of The University of Louisiana!!!

Both these young ladies I aplaud that they have dedicated their lives to Softball and education and do NOT want to take anything away from either of them.

The day this article was printed by the DA, the UL signee was put on page 5(five) and the LSU@Baton Rouge was put on page 1(one). There should be NO reason for two young atheletes from the same town, and the same town as the paper, to be put on different pages OTHER than ONE signed with the PAPERS hometown University that being UL.

    Advertiser in Lafayette.
STM athelete in and from Lafayette
University of Louisiana in Lafayette got page 5 listing

    Advertiser in Lafayette
STM athelete in and from Lafayette
Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge got page 1 listing?!?!?!?!?!?

What gives this is not about the atheletes it is about the coverage slighting UL gets from time to time!!!! I would bet that in the Baton Rouge paper the STM/UL signee did not get Front page coverage and the STM/LSU signee page 5!!!

Buddy I REALLY love your work, I REALLY do and have stated here before, but whoever is in charge of placing the articles is full of purple and gold fecal matter!!!

Get it right!!! This point has been hashed before and I know it gets old but it is oldest to the people who come from the same town your paper is from(I know your now owned out of state) and the University is from and your readers live.

Your LSU, Tulane, McNeese St, SLU, NLU, NWU, all just have to take a backseat when it comes to the University of Louisiana being covered in Lafayette Louisiana the hub of Acadiana!!!

End of Story, I hope you get this cleared up! Enough is Enough!!!
