UL - Jennifer Martin, a senior shortstop at St. Thomas More, grew up dreaming of playing softball at UL.
Martin recently came closer to making that dream a reality, verbally committing to sign with the Cajuns during the early signing period, which is Nov. 12-19.
"When I was younger I went and watched them play," said Martin, who picked the Cajuns over LSU. "I always wanted to go to UL, even before they made it to the College World Series (in 2008)."
Martin hit .375 with six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBIs as a junior. She also earned honorable mention all-state and first team All-Acadiana honors after hitting .476 in district play to lead the Lady Cougars within one game of the Class 5A state tournament.
As a junior, Martin hit .444 and was an all-state selection as STM won the Class 4A state title.
"UL is a wonderful school," Martin said. "They have a great team, and it's close to home. I like the fact my family could come and watch me play. The coaching is good, and the team is awesome."
