This season will truly be a test for the players and the coaches. I think current count is 6 starters out with injury. I hope the ladies show lots of character and get some of these wins under their belt. Good luck in Texas. And if you could throw a chicken on the field at Houston, that would be cool.

Soccer Scoring Drought Continues
Houston - The UL women's soccer team lost 2-0 Friday to the University of Houston (4-1). The Cajuns record drops to 0-3-1 on the season. The Cajuns played their third game in a row in the state of Texas, and so far the Lone Star State has not been a gracious host.
The Houston Cougars got off to a quick start scoring in the 6th minute, when Maegan Kiphart fed Jessica Zavalza for her first of two goals. Her second goal came in the 73rd minute. Houston goalkepper Shelby Scott, who had six saves, and her defense shut down the Cajuns all night.
The Cajuns offense has struggled this season scoring one goal in four matches. The Cajuns offense on Friday managed fourteen shots with six on goal. Heather Fuller led the team with three shots. Chelsea Balestra, Courtney Hofland, Allison Baker and Jordan Blevins had two shots each.
The Ragin' Cajuns continue their Texas two step Sunday against Lamar at 1 p.m. After Lamar the Cajuns will travel to McNeese State Tuesday at 4 p.m.

BEAUMONT, Texas- The Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team earned their first win of the season beating Lamar University (1-3) 3-1. The Cajuns offense came alive and scored two more goals against Lamar than they had in their previous four games. The win improves the Cajuns record to 1-3-1 on the season.
The Lady Cajuns opened up the scoring in the 26th minute when senior Heather Fuller scored her second goal of the year from 30 yards out. Freshman Kirsten Conway added a goal right before the half ended, to put the Cajuns up 2-0. Her shot from 12 yards out glanced off the a Lamar defender and ended up in the back of the net, it was Conway's first career goal.
The Cardinals responded in the 56th minute when Aline Pugliesi got past the Cajun defense and beat Cajun goalkeeper Amanda Moorefield to bring the Cardinals within one.
Fuller was ejected in the 85th minute earning a red card and forced the Cajuns to play down a man for the rest of the game. It didn't seem to hurt the team as Chelsea Balestra added her first goal of the season in the 89th minute and gave the Cajuns the 3-1 victory.
Goalkeepers Stephanie Weston and Moorefield combined for the win. Weston played the first half and did not allow a goal, Moorefield came in the second half and did give up a goal but the Cajuns still came away with the win.
The Cajuns play again Tuesday when they travel to McNeese State at 4 p.m, but they will have to do it without Fuller, who will miss the game because of her red card. The Cajuns will return home to take on LSU Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

. Cowgirls Upend Cajuns, 2-1
LAKE CHARLES, La.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team fell to 1-4-1 on the season as they dropped a 2-1 decision on the road to in-state rival McNeese State on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cajuns used a second-half goal from sophomore Kelli Jestes to knot the game at 1-1, but a late goal by the Cowgirls secured the victory for the home team.
With the loss, the Cajuns drop to 3-1-2 all-time against McNeese State.
For Jestes, the goal was her first of the season and 10th of her young career. With the goal, Jestes moves into a tie for fourth place all-time with Callie Oliver for points scored with 23. Jestes also ties Stephanie Lynch (2004-07) and Stacy Smith (2002) for third place in career goals.
Louisiana fell behind in the 23rd minute as Kamryn Koch took a pass from Alana Clark and slipped it past the Ragin’ Cajuns goalkeeper Stephanie Weston.
The Cajuns trailed at intermission, but Jestes’ goal in the fourth minute of the second half evened the score at one apiece.
McNeese State’s Ja’Nae Powell secured the win for MSU as she scored off of an assist by Mayra Torres in the 77th minute of the match.
The Ragin’ Cajuns out shot the Cowgirls 23-to-19 in the match and was nearly even in shots on goal (MSU – 10; UL – 9). Both goalies recorded eight saves apiece in the match.
Three Cajuns players recorded three shots in the match – Jestes, Oliver and Allison Baker. Melissa Minton and Oliver were the only two Louisiana players to record multiple shots on goal as they both had two.
The Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team returns home to the Cajuns Soccer Facility on Friday afternoon as they play host to in-state foe LSU. Because of predicted inclement weather in the Lafayette area, the time of the match has been moved up two hours and will kick off at 5:00 p.m. Live stats for the contest will be available on RaginCajuns.com.

This is not good, Cajuns are losing far too many early games and our offense seems to be nonexistent. What's next will be a lopsided loss to LSU on our home turf. Here's hoping no though. The SBC is a good soccer league and conference play won't be any easier.

NATCHITOCHES, La.- Despite their best efforts, Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team could not overcome two first-half goals by Northwestern State and fell 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Natchitoches.
The Cajuns drop to 2-5-1 on the season, while the Lady Demons improve to 4-4-1. With the loss, UL falls to 3-5-0 all-time against NSU. The loss is the first for the Cajuns in Natchitoches since Louisiana’s inaugural season in 2000.
Trailing 2-0, the Cajuns mounted a comeback in the second half. Just eight minutes into the second half, Kelli Jestes netted her second goal of the season to pull the Cajuns to within one of the hosts. Jestes’ goal came off of a pass from Courtney Hofland.
The goal gave Jestes six points on the season and 26 for her career. The sophomore currently stands in fourth place in the Cajuns’ annals for career points. Jestes tied Hofland for second place in the Cajuns record books for career goals with 11. The duo is both just one goal shy of Ashley Delahoussaye (2000-03) for the most goals in school history.
With her helper, Hofland tied Stephanie Lynch (2004-07) for the most points in school history with 29. She moved into a tie for fourth place with Callie Oliver and Mette Olesen (2004) for career assists.
Northwestern State wasted little time in the match getting on the scoreboard. The Lady Demons netted a goal in the second minute of the match to take a quick 1-0 lead. Kayce Schultz netted her third goal of the season courtesy of a helper from Chelsea Brozgold.
Brozgold also had the assist in the seventh minute of the match as Haley Cheshire netted her second goal of the season.
The match was close throughout the entire contest. The Cajuns edged the Lady Demons 11-to-10 in shots and saw NSU take one more shot on goal. Both goalkeepers Stephanie Weston and Lindy Strahan had three saves apiece.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will look to change their fortunes on Friday night as they return to the Cajuns Soccer Facility to open up Sun Belt Conference play. The Cajuns will play host to North Texas on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. before taking on Denver on Sunday, Nov. 28 in an afternoon match at 1 p.m.

. Lady Cajuns Hope the Road Will Heal Woes
LAFAYETTE- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team hits the road this weekend, with two conference games in the state of Arkansas.The first is Friday night at 7 p.m. against Arkansas State and Sunday the Cajuns will take on UALR at 1 p.m.
The Cajuns came up empty handed last weekend in games against North Texas and Denver. The trip to Arkansas may be just what the doctor ordered. Arkansas State has lost five in a row and UALR is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to South Alabama.
UL’s Kelli Jestes leads the team with eight points on the season thanks to three goals and two assists. One more goal would catapult her to the top of the UL history books in career goals and career points. Currently she trails Stephanie Lynch’s 29 career points by one and sits even with Lynch with 12 career goals. Only a sophomore, Jestes will have the opportunity to crush every offensive record in school history, throughout the remainder of her career. She is in the top-10 for career assists (4), career (56) and shots on goal (25).
Goalkeeper Stephanie Weston can achieve a career record as well this weekend. Two wins would move her into a tie for first with, Kristen Malen at 16 career victories.
Chelsea Balestra is having a successful sophomore campaign with five points on the season. She has already passed her 2007 totals in goals (2), assists (1), points (5), shots (13) and shots on goal (6).
Heather Fuller the team in shots (27) and shots on goal (10). Her five points on the season surpasses her 2007 total of three.
Scouting the opponentsb
Arkansas State- The Red Wolves are 3-5 on the season. After starting the season 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 15-4, ASU has dropped their last five while being outscored 17-5. ASU has been outscored by opponents in the first half 12-8, but fare better in the second half outscoring opponents 12-9.
Three individual Red Wolves have double-digit point totals this year. Kara Nitta leads the team with eleven points and Sofia Turesson and Kailey Gear are tied for second with 10 points.
Arkansas State has used two different goalkeepers in 2008 with each playing over 300 minutes. Sara
Krimm has started five games and Megan Stoltzfus has started three.
UALR- The Trojans are 5-5-1 on the year, and have won four out their last six. They are 1-1-1 against common opponents including a loss The Trojans lost to Southern Miss. which fell to Louisiana 1-0 on Sept. 14, 2008.
The Trojans; offense is lead by Grace Rich and Jessica Beaver who have 18 and 12 points respectively. Rich has seven goals and four assists. Beaver has six goals.
UALR net-minder, Jane Picarelli owns 1.32 goals-against-average on the season with three shutouts.
Following the games against ASU and UALR, the Cajuns will return home to face a pair of Florida opponents Oct. 10 and 12. UL will host Florida International on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. followed by Florida Atlantic on Oct. 12 on Sunday at noon.

JONESBORO, Ark. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns started off their weekend in Arkansas with a 3-2 win against the Red Wolves of Arkansas State (3-7). The win improves the Cajuns’ record to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Three separate Lady Cajuns scored on the afternoon, with assists from three different Cajuns.
The Cajuns opened up the scoring in the 15th minute when Jordan Blevins connected with Chelsea Balestra who scored a shot from the left side of the box. It was Balestra’s fourth goal of the season. The goal also put Balestra on top of the points list on the season. It was Blevins’ second assist on the year.
The Red Wolves’ Kara Nitti tied the game in the 34th minute on a cross to the top of the box.
UL came roaring back ten minutes later when Heather ULiman scored her second goal of the year on a scorcher from the top of the box. Chelsi McHenry assisted on the ULiman goal, her second assist of the year. The score remained 2-1 for the remainder of the first half.
In the 80th minute, senior Taunya Geelhoed found teammate Callie Oliver, who netted a shot from 18 yards out to put the Cajuns up 3-1. Oliver now has two goals on the year, and Geelhoed got her first point of the season on the assist.
The Red Wolves brought the match within one goal in the 87th minute, but that was the closest they would get as goalkeeper Stephanie Weston and the Cajuns picked up the win.
Weston now has 15 wins in her career, one behind Kristen Malen for the school career record. She will look to tie that mark on Sunday when the team faces UALR in Little Rock, Ark., at 1 p.m.
