NATCHITOCHES, La.- Despite their best efforts, Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team could not overcome two first-half goals by Northwestern State and fell 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Natchitoches.
The Cajuns drop to 2-5-1 on the season, while the Lady Demons improve to 4-4-1. With the loss, UL falls to 3-5-0 all-time against NSU. The loss is the first for the Cajuns in Natchitoches since Louisiana’s inaugural season in 2000.
Trailing 2-0, the Cajuns mounted a comeback in the second half. Just eight minutes into the second half, Kelli Jestes netted her second goal of the season to pull the Cajuns to within one of the hosts. Jestes’ goal came off of a pass from Courtney Hofland.
The goal gave Jestes six points on the season and 26 for her career. The sophomore currently stands in fourth place in the Cajuns’ annals for career points. Jestes tied Hofland for second place in the Cajuns record books for career goals with 11. The duo is both just one goal shy of Ashley Delahoussaye (2000-03) for the most goals in school history.
With her helper, Hofland tied Stephanie Lynch (2004-07) for the most points in school history with 29. She moved into a tie for fourth place with Callie Oliver and Mette Olesen (2004) for career assists.
Northwestern State wasted little time in the match getting on the scoreboard. The Lady Demons netted a goal in the second minute of the match to take a quick 1-0 lead. Kayce Schultz netted her third goal of the season courtesy of a helper from Chelsea Brozgold.
Brozgold also had the assist in the seventh minute of the match as Haley Cheshire netted her second goal of the season.
The match was close throughout the entire contest. The Cajuns edged the Lady Demons 11-to-10 in shots and saw NSU take one more shot on goal. Both goalkeepers Stephanie Weston and Lindy Strahan had three saves apiece.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will look to change their fortunes on Friday night as they return to the Cajuns Soccer Facility to open up Sun Belt Conference play. The Cajuns will play host to North Texas on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. before taking on Denver on Sunday, Nov. 28 in an afternoon match at 1 p.m.

. Lady Cajuns Hope the Road Will Heal Woes
LAFAYETTE- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team hits the road this weekend, with two conference games in the state of Arkansas.The first is Friday night at 7 p.m. against Arkansas State and Sunday the Cajuns will take on UALR at 1 p.m.
The Cajuns came up empty handed last weekend in games against North Texas and Denver. The trip to Arkansas may be just what the doctor ordered. Arkansas State has lost five in a row and UALR is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to South Alabama.
UL’s Kelli Jestes leads the team with eight points on the season thanks to three goals and two assists. One more goal would catapult her to the top of the UL history books in career goals and career points. Currently she trails Stephanie Lynch’s 29 career points by one and sits even with Lynch with 12 career goals. Only a sophomore, Jestes will have the opportunity to crush every offensive record in school history, throughout the remainder of her career. She is in the top-10 for career assists (4), career (56) and shots on goal (25).
Goalkeeper Stephanie Weston can achieve a career record as well this weekend. Two wins would move her into a tie for first with, Kristen Malen at 16 career victories.
Chelsea Balestra is having a successful sophomore campaign with five points on the season. She has already passed her 2007 totals in goals (2), assists (1), points (5), shots (13) and shots on goal (6).
Heather Fuller the team in shots (27) and shots on goal (10). Her five points on the season surpasses her 2007 total of three.
Scouting the opponentsb
Arkansas State- The Red Wolves are 3-5 on the season. After starting the season 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 15-4, ASU has dropped their last five while being outscored 17-5. ASU has been outscored by opponents in the first half 12-8, but fare better in the second half outscoring opponents 12-9.
Three individual Red Wolves have double-digit point totals this year. Kara Nitta leads the team with eleven points and Sofia Turesson and Kailey Gear are tied for second with 10 points.
Arkansas State has used two different goalkeepers in 2008 with each playing over 300 minutes. Sara
Krimm has started five games and Megan Stoltzfus has started three.
UALR- The Trojans are 5-5-1 on the year, and have won four out their last six. They are 1-1-1 against common opponents including a loss The Trojans lost to Southern Miss. which fell to Louisiana 1-0 on Sept. 14, 2008.
The Trojans; offense is lead by Grace Rich and Jessica Beaver who have 18 and 12 points respectively. Rich has seven goals and four assists. Beaver has six goals.
UALR net-minder, Jane Picarelli owns 1.32 goals-against-average on the season with three shutouts.
Following the games against ASU and UALR, the Cajuns will return home to face a pair of Florida opponents Oct. 10 and 12. UL will host Florida International on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. followed by Florida Atlantic on Oct. 12 on Sunday at noon.

JONESBORO, Ark. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns started off their weekend in Arkansas with a 3-2 win against the Red Wolves of Arkansas State (3-7). The win improves the Cajuns’ record to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Three separate Lady Cajuns scored on the afternoon, with assists from three different Cajuns.
The Cajuns opened up the scoring in the 15th minute when Jordan Blevins connected with Chelsea Balestra who scored a shot from the left side of the box. It was Balestra’s fourth goal of the season. The goal also put Balestra on top of the points list on the season. It was Blevins’ second assist on the year.
The Red Wolves’ Kara Nitti tied the game in the 34th minute on a cross to the top of the box.
UL came roaring back ten minutes later when Heather ULiman scored her second goal of the year on a scorcher from the top of the box. Chelsi McHenry assisted on the ULiman goal, her second assist of the year. The score remained 2-1 for the remainder of the first half.
In the 80th minute, senior Taunya Geelhoed found teammate Callie Oliver, who netted a shot from 18 yards out to put the Cajuns up 3-1. Oliver now has two goals on the year, and Geelhoed got her first point of the season on the assist.
The Red Wolves brought the match within one goal in the 87th minute, but that was the closest they would get as goalkeeper Stephanie Weston and the Cajuns picked up the win.
Weston now has 15 wins in her career, one behind Kristen Malen for the school career record. She will look to tie that mark on Sunday when the team faces UALR in Little Rock, Ark., at 1 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS - Lady Cajuns soccer player Callie Oliver was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.
Oliver is the fourth player in school history to earn conference Player of the Week accolades and the first under head coach Scot Wieland. She is the first Cajun to take home the honor since Lotte Rasmussen (2004) earned the praise on Oct. 18, 2004.
Oliver scored three goals on the weekend, helping the Cajuns to two SBC wins on the road. Oliver came up big when her team needed it most, with a pair of match winning goals.
She scored once on Friday night in the Cajuns 3-2 win against Arkansas State, from 18 yards out.
Oliver followed her performance against ASU by scoring twice Sunday afternoon in the Cajuns 3-1 victory against UALR. Her first goal came off a rebound she put in to the back of the net and her second came from 15 yards out.
Oliver, a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, now has six points on the season. She ranks second in UL history in career goals with 11 and is tied for first in career points with 29.

UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns soccer team is coming off a great weekend. They won two games on the road, scored six goals and had the Sun Belt Player of the Week in Callie Oliver. They will look to extend their two game winning streak this weekend when they take on Sun Belt Conference cellar dwellers Florida International and Florida Atlantic.
UL (4-7-1) hosts Florida International Friday, at 7 p.m. and then face Florida Atlantic Sunday at noon.

Hofland is being chased by two teammates for the UL points lead in school history. She is in a three way tie for UL’s career goals record.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Weston is one win away from becoming UL’s most prolific goalie ever. Weston is currently tied for first with 16 career victories. She already has the school record for shutouts which she earned earlier this season.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Florida International – Friday, Oct. 10, 6 p.m.
The Golden Panthers of Florida International are 0-10-1 on the season. FIU is playing better as of late earning a tie against reigning Sun Belt Champion Western Kentucky on Sept. 28. FIU has played North Texas and Denver as well, playing each close.
Leading the way for the Golden Panthers is Katrina Rose. She has two goals in eight games on the season.
Goalkeeper Melanie Raimo has started every game for the Golden Panthers. She has 58 saves on the season with a 2.23 goals-against-average.
As a team FIU has been outscored 25-5 on the season and 13-0 in the first half. They are looking for their first victory since Oct. 26, 2007 against Arkansas State.
The Cajuns lead the series with FIU 4-3-1; the lone tie came last season in Miami. The Cajuns are 2-1 verse FIU at home.
Florida Atlantic – Sunday Oct. 12, NOON
The Florida Atlantic Owls are 1-8-1 on the season, with their win coming against Indiana State, 1-0, on Aug. 29. FAU earned a tie against Western Kentucky on Sept. 26. The Owls are 0-7-1 in their last eight games. They have been outscored 14-3 in that time span.
The Owls are led offensively by Anhnhi Tran. She has two goals and four points on the season. The Owls have three players with two points each. Ashley Mannarino leads the way with 15 shots on the season.
FAU has primarily used Jessica Badders in the net. She has started ten games and logged over 920 minutes on the year. She has a 1.56 goals-against-average with 37 saves on the year.
The Cajuns and Owls have met only three times in school history. The Cajuns lead the series 2-1, with UL winning the last two.
Following the home stand the Cajuns head back out on the road for their toughest road trip of the season. They will face Western Kentucky Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. followed by a match against Middle Tennessee Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. The match against Middle Tennessee is the Cajuns final road game of the regular season.
. UL Soccer Battles FIU to Scoreless Draw
UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns soccer team earned a hard fought tie Friday night. The Cajuns and Golden Panthers of FIU played hard for 110 minutes but in the end the game ended 0-0.
The two teams played even in the first stanza. The Cajuns held a slight 8-7 edge in shots, but recorded four shots on goal compared to just one by the Golden Panthers.
Five UL players recorded shots in the first half with Heather Fuller pacing the Cajuns with four shots, including a shot on goal.
After 90-minutes of play, nothing had been solved and the two teams headed to overtime knotted at 0-0.
Both goalkeepers stood strong in the second half. The Cajuns attempted six shots on goal in the second half, but FIU’s goalie Melanie Raimo kept UL off of the scoreboard. For the Cajuns, Stephanie Weston deflected all five shots on goal in the second half by the Golden Panthers.
The Cajuns survived a FIU threat in the second half. Claudia Cardenas got past Weston and scored on an open net. However, the goal was erased because of an offside infraction by the Golden Panthers.
Louisiana failed to capitalize on several opportunities in the second half. Callie Oliver and Heather ULiman both recorded a pair of shots on goal in the second half, but had knocked away leaving the Cajuns scoreless.
In extra-time it was the same old song and dance as the game ended in at 0-0 tie.
Louisiana’s Weston finished the game with seven saves as she earned her second shutout of the year. She is one win shy of breaking the school record for all-time wins.
Offensively the Cajuns were led by Fuller who finished the game with seven shots, two of which were on net. Callie Oliver finished the game with four shots and two shots on goal.
The Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team will continue their home weekend on Sunday afternoon. UL welcomes Florida Atlantic to the Cajuns’ Soccer Facility for a match that is slated for Noon.
. Lady Cajuns Look to Continue Road Win Streak
UL - The Lady Cajuns soccer team is headed out on the road this weekend for a pair of Sun Belt Conference games in the states of Kentucky and Tennessee. UL faces Western Kentucky, Friday, at 7 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ky. The team travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., Sunday to face Middle Tennessee at 1 p.m.
The Cajuns are coming off a weekend that left them searching for some answers on offense. The Cajuns mustered one goal in the last 200 minutes, with that goal coming off a penalty kick. Louisiana will look to play like they did last road trip where they scored six goals, had two wins and a conference player of the week.
The Defense did a great job allowing just two goals in 200 minutes in the recent home stretch.
Cajuns Chasing History

The Lady Toppers lead the series 6-1-1. The Cajuns earned a tie last year, in a game that saw Jestes score the Cajuns lone goal.
The Lady Toppers are led by Senior Kristin Cocchiarella who has sixteen points on the season. She has scored 58 points in her career with 23 goals and 12 assists. She is tied for first in Lady Topper history with 10 match winning goals.
Goalkeeper Libby Stout has a goals-against-average that fits her last name perfectly allowing .28 goals a match with nine shutouts on the year. She has already set the school record for most shutouts in a season and as a freshman is within five of the school’s all-time mark.
Middle Tennessee (7-5-2, 5-1 SBC) 1 p.m. Sunday
The Blue Raiders lead the series 6-2. The Cajuns earned their win in consecutive years. (2001, 2002)
Middle Tennessee is led by freshman Shan Jones who has twenty points on the season. She has nine goals and two assists.
Blue Raider goalkeeper Kela Casipple has a record of 7-4-1 with six shutouts. She has a .86 goals-against-average.
Following the road trip the Cajuns finish up the regulars season with three straight home matches. The team will host Troy Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., South Alabama Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. and ULM Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

UL - The Louisiana Lady Cajuns Soccer Team will wrap up their 2008 season this Friday at 7 p.m. when they host ULM. The Lady Cajuns will say good-bye to eight seniors who will see their careers conclude after Friday’s game.
Louisiana, 4-12-2, this year will look to end the season on a high note. UL holds a 3-1-2 advantage against the Warhawks. The Lady Cajuns are 2-0-1 against them at home.
ULM is 4-12-1 on the season and 1-8-1 in SBC play. Their one win is against North Texas. They are winless in their last eight games.
The Cajuns will say thank you to the following eight seniors for their dedication to the UL program; Dannae DeVahl, Heather Fuller, Taunya Geelhoed, Jenn Hungate, Callie Oliver, Erika Saffer, Heather ULiman and Stephanie Weston.
DeVahl, a defender, has appeared in 55 matches in her career. She has two goals on two shots in her four years at UL. DeVahl has been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s list in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Fuller, a forward, has appeared in 37 matches in her two years at UL. She is a transfer from Lon Morris Junior College. In her two years she has ten points on three goals and four assists.
Geelhoed, a defender, is one of the Cajuns two captains on the year. She has appeared in 74 matches in her four years, which is third all-time in UL history. She has 17 points in her career coming off seven goals and three assists. Three of her seven goals were match winners. Geelhoed was named to the All-Louisiana team in 2006. She has also been a member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s list in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Hungate, a defender, has appeared in 59 matches during her time at UL. She has one goal and two assists in her career. Her lone goal was a match winner against South Alabama in the 2007 season. Hungate has been a member of the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2006 and 2008.
Oliver, a forward, was the other captain of this year’s team. She was a pre-season Sun Belt All-conference player this season. She has played in 74 matches in her career which is third most all-time in school history. She has 31 points in her four years stint at UL. Oliver has scored 12 goals which ranks second in UL history. She also has tallied seven assists in her career. She is the Universities all time leader in match winning goals. Oliver has been a member of the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Saffer, a defender, has appeared in 75 matches for the Cajuns in her career. Her 75 appearances are second most all-time in UL history. In four years as a Cajun she has posted six goals and two assists to give her 14 points in her career. Saffer has been a member of the Sun Belt Commissioner’s list in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Ulliman, a midfielder, has played in 52 matches as a member of the Ragin’ Cajuns. She has nine points in her four years at Louisiana. She has four goals and one assist. She was a member of the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2008.
Weston, a goalkeeper, has appeared in 56 matches for the Cajuns. She leads most statistical categories for a goalie. She is first all-times in saves with 257. She is the school’s all-time leader in shutouts with 11. She is tied with Kristen Malen for most career wins with 16. She is also third in career goals-against-average. She was named to the All-Louisiana team in 2006. She has also been a member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
. Lady Cajuns Hit a High Note at Gator Cove
UL - Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns soccer team dominated the ULM Warhawks Friday night earning the win 5-2. The Cajuns scored early and often throughout the night to earn their fifth win of the season. The five goals scored by the Cajuns were the most by any UL team in school history against a Sun Belt opponent. The Cajuns finished the season with a 5-12-2 record and 3-7-1 in SBC play.
Senior forward Callie Oliver had a hat trick and junior Courtney Hofland added two goals of her own in the win. Three seniors had assists in the game as well.
When asked about the historic and emotional evening Oliver smiled and responded, “It was a lot of fun!”
ULM opened up the scoring less than a minute in when Kelly Browne dribbled down the right side and successfully chipped the goalkeeper.
Louisiana responded less than two minutes later. In the third minute Heather Fuller was denied a goal by the Warhawks goalkeeper; however the ball found its way to Callie Oliver who put the ball in the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Oliver scored again less than three minutes later when she got a break away on the right side and beat the keeper to her left. Oliver’s second goal put her in the UL record books for most career goals.
The Cajuns took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The scoring continued in the second half. The Cajuns opened up the scoring in the 52nd minute when Courtney Hofland gathered a pass from Erika Saffer and put the ball in the top left corner. Hofland’s goal tied her for most career goals all-time; however that record didn’t last long.
Oliver scored her third goal of the night six minutes later. It was the first hat-trick in UL history. Heather Fuller assisted on Oliver’s goal. Oliver finished her senior season with seven goals.
Hofland netted her second goal of the game five minutes later. Hofland stole the ball and ran down the left side and beat the goalie on the left side. Heather ULiman assisted on the Hofland goal.
ULM scored a goal in 89th minute to give them two goals in the game.

. Oliver ends UL career with record
Callie Oliver ended her soccer career at UL in record-setting fashion.
The senior forward was named the Sun Belt's player of the week after helping the Cajuns to a 5-2 win over ULM on Friday. She scored three goals for the first hat trick in school history and finished her career as the program's all-time goals leader with 15.
It marked the second time this season Oliver earned player of the week honors, becoming the first Cajun to do so in a career. She was named player of the week on Oct. 7 after leading the Cajuns to two conference victories.
The five goals were the most at UL in a single match against a Sun Belt team as the Cajuns closed the season with a victory for the first time since starting the program in 2000.
Oliver ended the season with 14 points on seven goals - both career highs. She leaves UL as the school's all-time points leader with 37.

Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns soccer team held their annual awards banquet and announced their yearly award winners. Six Lady Cajuns were honored with awards for their hard work during the 2008 season.
The Cajuns named a Most Valuable Player on both sides of the ball. Callie Oliver (Texas City, Texas) was named the team’s Offensive MVP, while Stephanie Weston (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) was the Defensive MVP.
Oliver, who earned All-Louisiana and was twice Sun Belt Player of the Week, finished the season with a team high 14 points. Her seven goals on the season were enough to make her just the fourth person in school history with seven plus goals in one season. Oliver played in all 19 games starting 17. She is UL’s all time leader in career points (37), goals (15) and match winners (5).
Weston finished her Cajuns career as one of the most prolific goalies in school history. Weston is at the top of almost every category for goalies. She is first in saves, shutouts and wins. She is third in career goals-against-average.
Gayla Foster (Glen Carbon, Ill.) won the Cajun Pride Award. Foster was injured prior to the 2008 season and missed the entire year.
Jordan Blevins (Grapevine, Texas) was honored with the Ultimate Cajun Award. Blevins played in all 19 games while starting 15. She had one assist on the year. She helped the defensive hold opponents to 33 goals and two shutouts. The junior-to-be has three assists in her career.
Carleigh Martin (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) earned the Most Improved Award. Marin appeared in 18 games while starting 12. She had one assist and eight shots-on-goal during the 2008 season.
Allison Baker (Alton, Ill.) was named the 2008 Newcomer of the Year. The 5-5 freshman helped the Cajuns to a 1.68 goals-against-average.
