UL Football Recruiting Players at UL

Tell me why we can't recruit better at UL. It seems like every year in the off-season we

1.Won't go after more local guys (Not Just STM or LHS)

2.He played one year of High school football

3.DE are great in height to small in weight

4.The players are playing out of postion. We recruit him as a FS he ends up playing LB at 6'0 190
    or turn WR into TE

5.To scared to go after big time players in our on back yard for example just to name a few
    Lucas Taylor,Quinton Lawrence,Alonzo Landry,Cro.Jared Shaw,Kenneth Batiste Tyson Andrus Northside,Alley Broussard(AHS) Martell Narcisse,Dennis Savoy,Early Doucet Beau Lasseigne
and many more that can go on this list

6.If their grades are bad don't stop recuirting them try to help them out by giving them a
letter of encouragment for example Wilford Journet signed with Auburn and is playing Juco
in Mississippi to pick up his grades then is going to Auburn. Keiland Williams did the same but went to a military school.

7.Needs to bond more with the local coaches

8.Get out in the Community more often to build your fan base
    Start a Cajun Tour.

UL needs to do something fast even ULM is coming down here and getting our guys

The truth here is that a lot of players are playing out of position in high school... Height and speed mismatches are used a lot at this level.

Our coaches knew these guys and talkked to these guys... go on a recruiting trip to Tennessee or LSU or UL and get an offer? What could our coaches say truthfully and within the guidelines of NCAA regulations to win out on those guys... Troy was on a 1st name basis with Michael Mauti... arguably the best LB prospect ever to come out of LA... no one is scared, but there isn't much point to test drive a Ferrari when you are between jobs....

I agree with the current staff that filling up the roster with people who just are NOT college material academically [see Jerry Baldwin] does way more harm than good, especially with recent rule changes.

I think this is something the Cajun Coaches should absolutely step up, and soon... perhaps the formation of an athletic foundation as well as the new president will think of this on their own

Agree with all points except the local thing. I can't stand listening to that copout. Our lack of success has very little to do with getting local kids, besides, we have quite a few that play for this team as well as in the past. If I can get a kid from Florida who will help us win better than a kid from Acadiana high, I'll take him all day. Also, don't tell me its because of increased attendance. That's BS. You get kids in here that will help this program win, the people will come...Period.

All other items are very good points, especially the cajun tour. I like that idea except you have to have a statewide presence to make it work. LSU is good at it because they have alumni and fans all over the state which allows them to keep in touch with them. I don't know how many fans across the state we have due to lack of success.

Besides, if you look at our current roster, at least 80% of those kids are from LOUISIANA.

We sign all the wrong kids from Louisiana. Sure one out of ten ends up being good, but that ratio stinks. When was the last time we beat out La. Tech, Southern Miss and the like for a Louisiana prospect?

Every Louisiana player we sign either had no other FBS offers or their lone offer was just as bad (in perception) of a choice as UL.

Why does ULL not recruit southeast Texas more?

Also if you make a change think about one thing. Clint Conque has very good ties to the Ms jucos having played at southwest. Coaches who are successful with juco's can place them at the juco and know the juco coach will protect the player from other schools stealing them. Clint has the connections to do just that.

And the thing I was saying If we can stay on a player and he wants to commit here but do not have the grades then we should ask him to go the juco route and sign with us later.I would be all over the Juco's and build a realtionship with these coaches and high school coach to. Then a Player that they(Juco) have would want to come UL also. This is why I think that Louisiana should have Juco football programs. Some people think cause we have UL and all of the other school we can't get some programs started here.

Don't assume that any of these athletes were not offered. That would be a false assumption on your part. Wilford Journet was placed in JC by Auburn, he doesn't have any chance of making into any major insitution. His academics were terrible and didn't gradaute on time. He was offered an opportunity to enroll at UL and work on his academics, he chose to go to JC. Keiland Willliams and the same offer, he was sent to prep school and it was paid for by someone with deep pocket books.

UL has offered every single top athlete in the area this year and you can go down the list.

    Rickey Johnson-offered
    Jordan James-offered
    Andrew Hebert-offered
    Marcus Wiltz-offered
    Robert Walker-offered
Deon Anthony -no offer yet 16 ACT
Troy Godfrey -no offer yet 15 ACT
Louis Hollier-no offer yet 15 ACT
Jacarde Carter- no offer yet, Qualified(following)
    Seth Standsberry-no offer yet, Qualified(following)
    Michael Lamothe- offered

These are just to name a few, no athlete that is a BCS prospect is not going to sign with UL for the most part.
