Thread: Louisiana vs New Orleans

Guys, take a step back and look at the big picture. If Austin and Milhorn were healthy, Wilson and Boutte would have started last night and tonight. We would have skull drug both teams. Having 2 of your top 3 arms out trickles down. That's why the committee philosophy is in play. That's why Hicks had to come out (he's needed on the weekend), that's why we didn't crush that team last night. Probably would have been Wilson or Boutte for 6 innings, and a combo of Plitt, Hicks, Bazar, Toups, and Carter to finish up, and then the same tomorrow. EVERY team in the country will run into this kind of thing if 2 of their weekend starters are out.

That said, Butler and Strentz in the 9th was mind boggling. Only thing I can see is that Robe wanted them to have some success and get them going. As bad as both looked last night, I fully expected one of them to come up big. It just didn't happen. Time to move on and stomp "my niece" tonight.

No doubt. I really hope we can get Milhorn a couple of innings tonight and maybe again Sunday and that Austin can go Friday night.

If I heard correctly at the diamond club meeting, Austin is being held out again this weekend.

I think Robe said that Milhorn should get an inning tonight.

Take tonight's game and I'm sure a lot of us will feel better about last night. Loses will happen, but it's how you respond after those loses that really give you an indication of the fight in your team. So far, we've rebounded pretty well. Let's take it to Mickeyneese tonight.

In baseball...you cannot win them all. We are still 30-4.

Pitching by committee - Two things going on here that I think some are not seeing. First is that we will start the process of trying to keep everyone healthy at this point in the season. Thus the caution with Robichaux and Milhorn and limiting pitch counts etc. Second is that to get through a regional it can take a lot of arms so some of these guys who haven't got much work need to start getting some. How many times have we gone into a regional only to run short of arms?

Strentz - This guy is our workhorse. Maybe just maybe there was a point to be made here. He failed big time last night. It was on his shoulders and now he has to work his way through that mentally. I'd rather see him fight back now rather than attempt in the post season. Baseball is a mental game and its about time these guys really get their teeth kicked in and see how they respond.

Let's not throw the bulk of the blame at Strentz...he came up in a pressure cooker situation last night...unlike Butler who came into a cherry situation...and ____ed the dog. But still...it wasn't Butler's fault...why he wasn't pinch hit for by anyone that can lay down a bunt...we will never know.

This is not a good sign.

Will the pitching situation change a little tonight considering we dropped one last night? Does Robe maybe let a guy go a bit longer if it's a tight game?
