The debacle at USM aside, could those among you out there who are reasonable, mature people, at least wait until about mid to late November to take up this subject in earnest. Something else you might consider, particularly if you are a Cajun athletics stakeholder as well, is making the administration directly aware of your feelings.

With 11/12ths remaining, a seaon long "fire the coach" skatfest is about as appealing as death by an Ebola virus infection.

    Thanks.

Fire the coach has been a mantra for two years. Why not get an early start.

I think it's going to be Ricky Bustle, SWEET!!

It would be great to see the student body actually support the football team. UL's tuition remains cheap when compared to LSU, and yet the SGA has never even considered proposing an athletics fee to help with our anemic budget. Winning costs money, there's no getting around it.

Wait until November? While I agree that having this conversation is about as appealing as all of the BS we've talked about all summer, I don't think that we need to wait until November to decide whether or not this coach has the ability to do his job properly. How does a coaching staff say all of the garbage they said (Best camp in 31 years; bigger, faster, stronger; TNT; more intensity and better chemistry) and still lay an egg with multiple turnovers, stupid penalties, lack of emotion and intensity, and simply getting manhandled. How do you spend the first 40 minutes of every practice working on fundamentals and tackle as poorly as they did. Like some people said, while USM is a great team, they aren't USC or Ohio St, but we made them look like it. I don't care if this team ends up winning 7 games this year, or knocks off Kansas St or Illinois, a performance like the one on Saturday gives me 0 confidence that this coach knows how to prepare for a game, adjust to what the other team is doing, can keep it's opponent on its toes, or whatever. I don't care if we win 5 games in the SBC, I care about not being embarrassed in the 1st game. I care about beating those ahead of us (USM) and competing with bigger schools (KSU and Illinois, and Nebraska and LSU next year). When we start to do those things, we'll easily start to win conference championships.

I didn't think I could be any less excited about Cajun Football after the McNeese debacle last year, but Rickey Bustle has managed to make me very disinterested about even traveling to Lafayette for the home opener. I'll certainly be there, and I'll even go into the game, simply because it's football and because I will continue to do my part to help the school I love. But other than the chance to hang out with my friends and have a good time in some nice weather, I'm not really looking forward to it.

If they don't make a change this year, I surely hope they don't call me next year to renew my 10 tickets, or write that check to the RCAF that I've been wanting to write for so long. I may not be a heavy hitter or a big booster, but I've given a good amount based strictly on hope, and I've lost all hope. If they're not going to renew my hope, then I'm not going to renew my donations.

And have no worries, my comments will not be confined to this board, but will be forwarded to those who make the decisions. And, like Destin, I hope the rest of you do the same.

    Well said.

I also drive in from Houston for every home game. I have 5 regular season tickets and purchased the corporate season ticket package for an additional 25 season tickets, which adds up to a grand total of 30 season tickets purchased. I read all of the optimism spewed by the coaches and some posters on this board before the USM game and wondered how all of a sudden we expected so many things to change on offense and defense from last season. We have been hearing the same positive things every offseason, and see the same old things on the field when the games start.

I am 27 years old and have been attending games for as long as I can remember. I have vague memories of the Brian Mitchell teams and a few good memories from the Jake Delhomme teams, but during my tenure as a Cajun football fan, I don't have much to hang my hat on. I consider myself a die hard, but am losing faith. It's not easy giving up a whole weekend to make the 4+ hour drive to and from Lafayette, to watch us lose in sloppy fashion most of the time.....but I do it anyway. If I am losing faith, I can only imagine what the casual fan is thinking.

I am not one to call for a coches head, but in Bustle's own words this was the best camp he has ever had and the players have gotten bigger, stronger and faster from last year. Seems to me that the fault lies with coaching. The team that I saw play on Saturday was the same team that I saw playing the last couple of years, even with all of these so called changes. It was pitiful.

The Louisiana Board of Regents has a rule that UL can only use 3% of student fees on athletics.

While I will agree that Saturday's game was not what we waited all off-season to see unfold, I don't think we need to provide the student athletes on this football team with this kind of negativity. There will be a venue in which the timing of such a discussion, and with the powers that be can be made on what changes need to be made for us to improve our football program.

This team, no matter of the coaches that lead it, deserve our support. If in fact we are true Cajun supporters, this board will not be used to make condescending remarks on a team of young players that are working to improve their play.

No one is doubting the players. No one is providing the players with negativity. The coaching staff is taking the blow from this board. And by the way, this IS the venue for special topics such as this. We all support the players. They ALWAYS give their all. We're simply sharing our views about our struggling program and especially our struggling coaching staff. It's year 7 dude. Year 7 of Bustle's tenure. We want to win!! And we're all frustrated with a coaching staff that seems to never put us in that position.

The students did pass an auxiliary building fee. They paid for the indoor practice facility. Also, the students did support the program. There was a swell of support. Look at the Minnesota game when coach Bustle first got here. The student side was packed. Students have supported the program in far greater numbers in the past five years.
