Thread: Annual Home-n-Home vs USM

UL Football Annual Home-n-Home vs USM

Cajuns Sell Out their allotment of 2,500. Congrats. I would say that makes you the fifth largest visiting crowd to come to the Rock. Behind NEB, MS State, Jackson State and '99 Tulane.

Some Golden Eagle fans on the rivals payboard calling for a home and home series with LA...I agree.

This would make for a great rivalry and it is an easy commute ofr both parties involved.

Congrats to your fans. This was posted on the USM pay Rivals board and there is more than one post on how ULL would make a far better member for CUSA than UAB.

If and when the Big East takes ECU, UCF, and Memphis I think that USM, Houston, La Tech, and UL need to work on getting into the same conference.

That is something all of US have wanted for a VERY long time!! Hopefully, Coach Fedora will be willing to talk about that after this game.

We have had many posts on this board about how we can convince others that we would be viable members of a new conference. What seperates UL from many other mid majors is our fans. From tailgating to traveling to monetary support of UL. Some schools may be closer to airports or are located in bigger TV markets but the bottom line is the fans. Obviously USM is impressed that UL sold out its 2,500 ticket allotment and from what I have seen and heard there will probably be 1,000 more UL fans show up. If UL can get the reputation of selling out ticket allotments on the road and maintaiing large home crowds, that would, indeed, be the separating factor between UL and most of the other Sun Belt programs. Way to go UL fans! A very positive way to start the season. Now let's go win the damn game!

I noticed that ULM was playing Arkansas again in Little Rock. Has there ever been any talk about us playing USM every year in the Superdome? We could alternate home and home. I bet both schools would love it, well the fans would..

If you attend the game this week end it will be obvious to anyone why USM is and will do anything possible to play their games at home. Superdome is nice but it is NOT a home game, regardless of its designation. Our fans arent forking out $35,000 annual rent for a suite or $225 per game to lease a club seat to have the games played elsewhere. No offense, nothing against UL, but USM cant work a deal like that into their schedule.

An annual game in the Superdome would expand the USM fan base (recruiting) in Louisiana.

    How much is that worth?

USM is committed to at least six home games in order to keep a commitment to those who signed the long term leases on suites and club seats. We have four conference games at home each year and have signed one and ones with teams like Virginia and Kansas who are coming aboard shortly. That one and one situation with those two gives us one home game each year which with conference games gets us at five. That leaves one more which complicates it a bit because we want a super school who demands two from us for one visit to the Rock. Nebraska is set to fill that gap but as you see, it leaves us one home game short every other year so that is the hole we must fill with a team that agress to come to the Rock without a return game. We have had no problem getting McNeese, Jackson State, Southeastern, etc to come in for that game so in doing that our schedule is set, 6 games minimum at the Rock. Setting up a New Orleans game with ULL would reduce it to five which is unacceptable. And, from a recruit standpoing, a visit to the Rock far surpasses the Superdome with its sanitized and generic environment. A campus visit exposes them to the hordes of fans, tailgating, campus atmosphere, a beautiful facility with a digital videoboard, etc. Besides, we normally get Tulane in the dome on a conference rotating basis. I like playing the Cajuns but am sure you dont want to continue coming to USM without return visits so this game might be it for a long time.

For recruiting I wasn't talking about visits I was talking about marketing a game outside of your cocoon where you had an equal shot at home field advantage.

I forgot about your Tulane game, your'e right an extra Superdome game wouldn't help you.

I think this is where schools should look at the positives of scheduling nearby 1-a teams. The Cajun fans have sold out there allotment of tickets and are buying more. There maybe up to 4000 or more UL fans there. Yet there are still 10,000 unsold tickets even with a new coach and new stadium. If USM had scheduled a 1-aa team how many tickets would be sold. If UL and USM would schedule home and home it would not cost very much for each school for transportation or guarentees with pretty good attendance for each school. If UL would get competitive with USM and a rivalry would develop then for little cost to each university and good attendance figures a good series could develop. Getting BSC schools is great but at what cost to the budget compared to having a home and home with UL. I sometimes think that mid-majors do a misservice to each other by not cooperating with each other and being to quick to try and appease BSC schools with 2 for 1's or 3 for 1's. Mid majors biggest leverage is cooperating with each, scheduling each other, and making BSC schools pay dearly for games with us.
