  1. Track & Field Louisiana Ready to Run Midweek at LSU


     UL - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team will participate in its first mid-week meet of the season Thursday and Friday at the LSU combined events. The Cajuns have had several performances they hope to build upon during the meet.

    The Cajuns have not competed for twelve days and are more than ready to back on the track and compete.

    Chris Roy has been perfect this season taking first place in the pole vault in every meet. He has qualified for the NCAA Regional meet already this year and leads the conference in the Pole Vault.

    UL has two more meets after the LSU Combined Events, to get ready for the conference meet May 8-10. This year the conference is being held in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

  3. Track & Field Roy Wins Again, Simmons Regionally Qualifies


      Baton Rouge, La. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns competed at the LSU Alumni Gold meet this past weekend in Baton Rouge, La. The meet featured several past Olympians and some of the best runners in the nation.

    UL’s Chris Roy again won the pole vault. He won the meet with a height of 5.25m which came up just short of the school record.

    Breshaud Woodard finished fourth in men’s 110m hurdles. He was the highest finisher for the Cajuns the track events. Woodard finished as third best collegiate athlete as the first place finisher was a pro.

    The highest finisher for the women was Taryn Simmons who finished fourth in the 400m hurdles. Her time of 1:00.04 was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.

    The Cajuns will be back in action next weekend at the NSU Invitational Saturday in Natchitoches, La.

    Actually, the mens hurdler was 9th overall. He was 4th in the SLOW heats. The fast guys ran earlier/later.

  5. Track & Field Houston Qualifies, Roy 5 for 5


     Natchitoches, La. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team competed in the NSU Invitational Saturday and for Chris Roy it was the same ole’ song and dance as he took first place in the pole vault once again. Sprinter Roderick Houston qualified for Regionals with his performance in the 100m.

    Houston took fourth in the 100m dash but was still able to qualify for the Regional Meet.

    Reese Lee took third in the 800m. Kevin Powell finished second in the 400m hurdles.

    The 4x100m relay team finished second but was the top college team in the race. The team was made up of Roderick Houston, Joey Wynn, Stacey Fuller and Sean Ruth.

    On the women’s side Kioloni Readeaux took second in the triple jump. Kristen Meche took fifth in the javelin. UL’s Deanna Alfred took fifth in the 100m dash. Taryn Simmons took third in the 400m dash; she also helped the 4x100m team finish third. The other members of the relay were Jamie Blue, Deanna Alfred and Jasmine Manuel.

    The Cajuns will be back in action Wednesday, as the host the Cole/Lancon Twilight.

  6. Track & Field Cajuns Wrap Up Season in Style


      UL - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns track and field team concluded their regular season Thursday, as they competed in the Cole/Lancon Twilight at the Cajuns Track and Field/Soccer Complex. The meet was the Cajuns final tune up before the conference meet in a week and half.

    The meet saw the Cajuns take first place in nine seperate events. Chris Roy extended his streak to six straight meet wins by claiming first place in the pole vault.

    Other champions included Jasmine Anderson in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.47. Louis Steves took first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.79. Kelvan Turner won the dash in 10.87. Taryn Simmons won the 400m hurdles and had a time of 1:00.25.

    In the relay events the Cajuns 4x400m team won with a time of 3:54.50. The team consisted of Simmons, Jamie Blue, Deanna Alfred and Anderson. The men's 4x400 team of Stacey Fuller, Sean Ruth, Brandon Thibodeaux and Joey Wynn also took first place with a time of 3:18.13.

    The Cajuns took first in four field events. Jasmine Manuel won the long jump with a distance of 5.84m. Amber Laurent won the pole vault with a height of 3.20m. Roy won the pole vault with a height of 5.20m and Melissa Minton won the high jump with a height of 1.60m.

  7. Track & Field Chris Roy Crowned Outdoor SBC Champion


      Murfreesboro, Tenn. – The men’s and women’s track and field team competed in the SBC Outdoor Championships this past weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The men and women competed hard over three days and had some strong finishes along the way.

    Chris Roy won the pole vault with a height 5.20m which broke the stadium record set in 2000. Roy won every meet this season and has qualified numerous times for the Regionals.

    The men also saw strong performances from Bresshaud Woodard, who finished second third in the 110m hurdles and Antwain Keyes who took second in the high jump.

    The women fared better than predicted and their performance was highlighted by Taryn Simmons, who took second in the women’s 400m hurdles.
    Kristen Meche took second in the Javelin throw and was one of seven competitors to break the stadium previous stadium record. Jasmine Anderson took fifth in the 100m hurdles.

    tried to find our Men's and women's final standings ----anyone know how we finished????? Hope with the new facilities we can get some better kids---the Ambrose kid from Monroe is going to be great--why go there over UL??????

    He got a chance to return kicks and play right away up there bcause ULM had less talent at WR, plus he liked the athletic housing better.

    Notice the point Josh makes about athletic housing. Although we are improving that situation, I don't know how high of a priority it is.

    Its another indictment on our previous lame as*ed administration. Backwards sssed ulm has better housing than we do? How pathetic is that!!

    5.2 meters is over 17 feet, if my math is correct (which it might not be, but figure it yourself if you doubt me) - that is nothing to sneeze at! This kid has done well and can do better next year! Great job - undefeated and getting nationally ranked heights! This is a bright spot on the UL athletic scene - somebody buy that kid a new pair of shoes and an indoor pit to practice on!
