The 21st edition of Rugg's Recommendations on the Colleges will highlight 15 departments from the University of Louisiana for their outstanding work. Those departments include

    • Fred Rugg, author of the guide, says the book is in over 80 percent of America's high schools and libraries and has been designated nationally as "a revered staple, the book parents and students must start with" in the search for a college to attend.

    The listings come from a variety of sources including college students who have been surveyed. "It you want a straight answer, the young folks seldom waver," said Rugg. In addition, monthly evaluations from secondary school counselors around the country are used to determine listings as well as "tips" Rugg receives at his workshops across the country on college admissions.

    The 20th edition of Rugg's Recommendations on the Colleges featureed six major departments from Louisiana:
