Thread: Helmet Colors

  1. SLII 1901-1921 Helmet Colors

I am narrowing down the different helmets used over the years.

In the pictures below from 1974 and 1975, it is my contention that the helmet went from true Vermilion (no logo) in 1974, to Burgundy (USL) in 1975.

For me the tell tail sign is the 1975 photo where you see the carry over helmets from 1974 to which they added the USL logo.

I need your thoughts to iron out the burgundy years.

    1) 1974 VERMILION HELMETS
    2) 1975 DK BURGUNDY USL HELMETS with a couple vermilion helmets from 1974 mixed in.

True Vermilion, the color, is much much more of an orange color than any helmet worn by the Cajuns.

Its a tad darker than texas' helmets.

You are correct. The 74' helment looks much better.

"True" is a poor choice of words. There is probably no such thing as "true" vermilion.

I think the 1974 helmet color falls between the Chinese Vermilion and Vermilion hue swatches shown in this link. Studying Vermilion
