We do not blame LSU for our lack of success. Because we dislike what the university stands for especially its in-state politics, doesn't mean that we blame them for having a sorry football program. Our administration should take full responsibility. However, as an LSU fan, if you choose to keep your head buried in the sand as to how LSU and many of its past alumni control the university system in this state, you need not post any longer as you simply won't understand where the hatred comes from.
When Academy opened up in Alexandria, they had plenty UL hats and shirts. Now you can't find a UL cap or shirt in the Alexandria Academy. We have been replaced with a little LA Tech and of course Plenty LSU stuff.
Lets see: UL is an hour away from Alexandria, LA Tech is 2 hours away from Alexandria.
Im sure many of you will reply with who cares about Alexandria, but it really is a market that has been un tapped except by LSU.
I would like to see UL recruit students more in Central Louisiana. People barely know UL exist around here.
Please hold the who cares about Alexandria comments.
I thought Alexandria was in Arkansas. As you know, anything above Ville Platte should just be considered Arkansas
When I go to the beach in Destin or Gulf Shores I always bring my UL gear. When I wear a UL hat people ask what school it is, I say "U. Louisiana", and they say "oh U. of Lafayette", I quickly say no. I wear my Ragin Cajuns shirt and I have to explain to them what a ragin cajun is and that we are the school with the pepper. Look I know it's a tough job to sell or pitch or market something regionally and nationally. But for gods sake, if you have 3 different names, 2 different mascots, and no merchandise to sell, you are giving yourself an uphill battle before you even get out of the gate. I understand that you want to control what merchandise is sold and control public perception in a marketing sense of the University. But you've got to get the name out there, you've got to get your product out there. When you make it so hard to get things your going to lose people. 1. Push our product. Tell anyone and everyone that has an ear. 2. Choose the name-Figure once and for all if it's UL-Lafayette, UL, or ULL, then send a memo to all major and minor news/broadcast outlets that we should be called _____ on TV/print. 3. Don't make it so hard for vendors to sell the merchandise. Don't make a mom and pop shop buy bulk merchandise when they don't need it/can't afford to stock it. 4. Phase out the pepper. Do it yesterday. This a Major University, use the brain power to develop a mascot/logo that is closer associated to Ragin Cajuns. Ragin Cajuns is one of if not the most unique nickname in college sports. Use that as a marketing tool.
I'm just saying.
There goes your small minded comment.
You obviously have not been to Bunkie or Marksville or anywhere in Avoyelles Parish which is about as French/Cajun as you can get, but anyway you wouldn't know.
Thats besides the point. It is people like you who hold this university back. Why should we just market to cajun people, what about the rest of the state.
We have to think beyond our boundaries if we ever want to be known.
Trust me I know, after living in Lafayette for 6 years I thought the same way and I thought the rest of the state knew we existed. When you move away, it is a different story.
Whoa, "several people", huh?
People can be incredibly "slow" acting and "out of touch". If you want to really play with their minds, just wear an East Carolina jersey.
I read where something like 80% of HS students in the US cannot find Washington, DC on a map. Having seen a stat like that, the huge sea of ignorance around us doesn't surprise me anymore.
