Comeaux is expected to be much improved this year with talk of them seriously contending for thier district's title. So I would think almost any district game for them could be interesting to watch, especially vs Acadiana since that game was a surprise last year..

Crowley High and Notre Dame is a great one every year, I don't miss that one. You can feel the hatred that they have for each other. Whoever wins usually wins district. It is usually on TV.

    Go Gents!

Agree with Brudha Cajun! The Gents are my Wife's alma mater, so I get to partake in the festivities between these two teams every year. There sure is a lot of hatrid between the two. Personally I am glad to be objective.

Go to the closest jamboree you can get to.... those things are like pre-season NFL to me.

Lafayette High opens its season against Comeaux, and that seems to be the most interesting Lafayette-area game that day.

Acadiana vs Lafayette had always been a big game when I was in school. Its a big rivalry. We hated Lafayette, and I'm sure they hated us too.

I think it is still a big cross-town rivalry but it has lost some of its punch due to LHS and Acadiana no longer being in the same district. Same for LHS and Comeaux.

Give me a chance to look at the schedule and I'll fill in the answers to those questions.

If you're willing to wait a week or two, our annual football tab will give the game of the week in each district, so you can look at that and pick and choose which you think would be the best games that week.

Also, might help if you tell me how far you're willing to travel. Are we talking only inside Lafayette Parish, or would you be willing to drive to Iberia Parish or St. Landry Parish?

Louisiana S-Club Re: Anyone with knowledge of high school football here locally?

Thursday October 30 Westminister vs. Opelousas Catholic. Acadiana's version of Catholics vs. Protestants. Lafayette rich kids vs. Opelousas working class. These kids hate each other and it is fueled by the fact that since its inception (over 15 years) Westminister has won only once although every game is decided by a touchdown or less. OC wants to make sure that it is not the one that loses to Westminister and Westminister wants to be the first to beat OC. A true test of any rivalry . . . ask any of the players or coaches and they will say that they would rather go 1-9 and beat the other than go 9-1 and lose.

Sept. 26 — Carencro at Sulphur or St. Thomas More at Westgate

Oct. 3 — Parkview Baptist at Cecilia (that's a Oct. 2 game though, but it's two very good teams and rematch from last year's quarterfinals); Acadiana at Lafayette (for the rivalry); Carencro at East St. John (both teams should be ranked pretty high, if all goes to plan)

Oct. 10 — Westgate at New Iberia (city rivalry)

Oct. 17 — Acadiana at Barbe (Rams' only game outside of Lafayette Parish) or Teurlings at Northside (probably for District 5-4A title)

Oct. 24 — Comeaux at Acadiana (Comeaux upset Acadiana last year); Breaux Bridge at Northside (could be for 5-4A title again)

Oct. 31 — could go with Westminster-OC on the 30th or St. Thomas More at Barbe (could be for 3-5A title) or Teurlings at Breaux Bridge (big rivalry game)
