Thread: Kennedy: LA needs new med school; Lafayette is ideal

Default New momentum for UL medical school?

Thought this might have already been posted . . .

    http://www.theadvertiser.com/story/n...sday/13640039/

"Both Durel and Kennedy said they were unsure of what university the medical school would be affiliated with if it became a reality, but they assume it would be the University of Louisiana at Lafayette."

"they assume it would be the University of Louisiana at Lafayette."

Of course this is the only viable option but someone needs to send them the BoR Supremacy video.

no representative of UL at the meeting?

Don't get all excited. The necksters thought they were taking over LSU-S and med school. Remember how that played out.

Only thing different here is it would be a new school, not a take over.

We have the land and infrastructure. But Kennedy is probably running for governor, so this might be simple pandering.

Not overly excited. But, to have Durel and the state treasurer meeting is good stuff. Vitter needs to support it however. Or, it will die on the vine.

"LSU Health Sciences Center Chancellor Dr. Larry Hollier" and no University of Louisiana representative does not make for a 'healthy' discussion.

It could very well be a hybrid situation. The med school would be an LSU med school hosted at UL.

It's a great idea, but I'm extremely skeptical about it being under UL and by them saying "they assume" is just a way to calm the masses for the time being and not cause a stir. It should be under UL, there needs to be another public med school in the state of La.

    Default Medical School in Lafayette

    From today's Advertiser

    http://www.theadvertiser.com/story/n...july/13674079/

Lafayette could have medical school by 2017, officials say

"The school would be a local campus of LSU Health Sciences Center and would partner with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and area hospitals."

Sorry to disappoint anyone but it will not be a UL medical school. But then any realist realized that would never happen in this Banana Republic.

On the bright side this should remove any opposition from LSUA&MC about UL dropping the city tag in its name. Afterall, wasn't one of the main objections to the University of Louisiana name voiced by William Jenkins that if given the name it would lead to us wanting a medical school and challenging the mighty flagship? Well, it looks like that can't happen now. Your concerns have been allayed; name problem solved, Willie.

That's what I figured. LSU will not be giving up the med schools any time soon. Regardless, it's still likely a positive for Lafayette and UL.
