Announced earlier that the first game scheduled for 4pm was cancelled, but the 6pm game was still going to be played. I haven't heard anything new on that.

Both rained out, per one of the softball threads.

What if I said it would severely damage our RPI and help LSU's RPI? How bad do you want that win? ;-)

I still want a win, but I know what you are saying.

Oh man this sucks. I was so ready to watch some Cajun baseball tonight, but I understand what you are saying. What if Southern gets hot and wins some games and ends up with a .500 record. Knowing the back end of there schedule is not very good, could that help us if we play and win or would it hurt less.

FYI, I really don't care what it does to LSU's RPI. I only care about ours.

Radar shows rain, but not until 9 or 10 PM.

No. This can't be. Why are we doing this to us? Let's play freaking ball. Let the Cajuns go 50-5 & the RPIs will be adjusted accordingly. Let the wins continue on.

Southern will make a very poor contribution to both the Cajuns' OWP and OOWP … though one would hope that their OWP contribution improves as they get further into conference play.

Currently, there is a .0046 gap between the Cajuns at #10 and Texas at #11 … so it may or may not quite translate to a drop in ranking. But there are several other teams lined up behind Texas that are also within striking distance.

    How is the weather looking?

I just calculated the exact impact of just this game (assuming a win). It is a drop from .6046 to .5992 ... or .0054.

However, the Cajuns are getting some help from their opponents tonight ... thus far to the tune of .0031.

Unfortunately, the result not in yet is Louisville at Western Kentucky (affects RPI after Friday's game). Louisville leads 5-3 B9th with 100mph closer Nick Burdi on the mound.

Isn't there a chance that Southern could eventually turn it around and compete in the SWAC? I know it's wishful thinking but who's the cream of the SWAC crop this year?

Certainly Southern could help the Cajuns significantly by winning more games down the stretch. I would take a .500 contribution to OWP from Southern. After tonight, the SOS contribution would be a lowly .2939 ((.2500 *2)+.3818)/3) ... and that is with Louisiana helping its own OOWP by including their W/L record (.9231) to Southern's OWP (resulting in an increase of .3481 to .3818).

If you were to keep Southern's OOWP contribution at .3818 (not far fetched) and estimated their OWP contribution at .5000 (meaning they finish one game under .500), then the .2939 SOS contribution becomes .4606 ... a vast improvement. Still not good ... but much more palatable.

It is too bad ... because playing Southern for many years was a boon to the Cajuns' RPI ... contributing a solid WP (becoming an OWP contribution).
