Season Attendance predictions

_ Until we see differently it sure fits with last season.

However, I bet that corrective sentiment and commentary is being heard all over the country including coaches of some nationally ranked defenses, except many of those practices tend to be closed. _

Closing UL Practices would be nearly impossible unless they go in the IPF and lock the doors. And my thinking is that practice should be closed in most cases. Airing your dirty laundry, bad offence or defence practice should stay in house. Let your foe find out what you have on the field of play. Some may say that if the players read the media reports on how bad the practice was, it may cause them to rethink their proformance. It could also cause them to go in a shell and feel that they are doing thier best. So coach shut up and let the media think what they want

VOB mentioned that the fence around the practice faCILITY WOULD HAVE A WIND BARRIER A-LA TENNIS COURTS AROUND IT!! THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND LOOK A HELL OF A LOT BETTER!!!!

If the optimism I hear from the team/coaches/media/etc. is well-founded, then I expect a 20k average, with the possibility of one or two over that figure.

Here's my take.

Everyone is excited at the beginning of the season.

We get an excellent crowd for the first home game. (24 to 26K)

We lose that game & the next game or two against top 10 teams on the road. People say "same old, same old" and lose interest.

We get into conference games and start doing pretty well but no one notices because we went into conference with a losing record.

When the public starts to think that the team is looking pretty good, it's too late & the season's over. Crowd is down.



We need to win the first two or three games to get the fans wipped up. That never happens & we never realize the potential of the support of this vibrant community. And the money continues to go to Baton Rouge.

The USM Hattiesburg website shows their season ticket goal is 12,500 with a little over 10,500 sold to date. Didn't we sell almost 10,000 season tickets this year already, and that coming off horrible prior losing seasons? A big difference at USM is their students show up as does most of the town and they average over 25,000 (of course they have a winning tradition). This is UL's year to step up with a winning record, avg. attendance over 25,000 and a bowl game. Then, look out next year and in the future! This is a new UL!!

I am willing to bet that USM is not selling corperate packages like we have done this year in order to boost the numbers of tickets sold. If 75% of those season tickets sold actually show up for the games i'll be impressed.

PS If you read the Feinwog article in the USA Today about the UL media guide, please do not blame his use of "yoo ell ell" on the UL SID and UL AD. The choice to use that term for our university had to be his and his alone and has to be expected.

It's a damn shame an Advertiser reporter couldn't have provided this story to USA Today. Given the Advertiser's superb coverage of Cajun athletics here lately, it would have been light years better had it come from one of theirs instead of the p&g clown.
