This young man has his head screwed on very straight. His college coach gave him sound avenues to get good input, and his dad wanted him to go ASAP. I think that was clear when someone sitting next to him remembered him being more upset with his missed shots against GSU than team gains and loses.
The 'die is cast' and there is no more worrying about it. You only work, or worry about things you have control over. IMO this young man will achieve a lot more than college lore in his life. Of course we all hope and wish the best for him, and hope he has a long prosperous career filled with many team and personal zeniths.
I have zero knowledge of what is smoke, what is real. He was given good information from the NBA, as good as it can be. He made a decision, not quickly but only after sufficient time to look at all the good and bad that could come from his decisions. I will not be one to say there I told you that was a bad decision, or there you see he made the right one. Seems kind of petty to me, especially at this point forward.
Good luck EP, make yourself a great life.
Bob Marlin was frustrated.
The University of Louisiana basketball coach spent the better part of a month in the spring of 2013 trying to get his star point guard, 6-foot-4 sophomore Elfrid Payton, into the Chris Paul Camp, but to no avail. Payton had been lightly recruited out of high school -- UL was the only Division I school that offered a scholarship. His name carried little weight outside Louisiana, or the Sun Belt Conference, even though the sophomore had averaged 16 points a game in the 2012-13 season and led the league in assists and steals.

Really good read. Crazy to think that EP shot 90% from the free throw line during the Team USA tournament. I think with the added time not having to go to school, his shot will develop. If so, EP could end up being a pretty darn good NBA player. Good luck Elfrid!
So was he ...

Don't know. It just says 90%. Any of those options are impressive though. I tend to doubt he had many 9-10 stretches this past season.
25. Houston Rockets:
Elfrid Payton rose into the first round of many mocks when projectors realized that he averaged 19.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game last year for the Ragin' Cajuns.
That level of productivity would sure look interesting alongside James Harden and Dwight Howard.

Man this would be fantastic! This is what I've been saying the Rockets need. I just hope this comes to fruition
The Ragin' Cajuns won too. He carried his unit to a Sun Belt Conference tourney and while he fell to Douggy McBuckets and Creighton, he left his mark in the eyes of NBA personnel. We caught up with Payton in L.A., where he was training with ex-UCLA ...
