I really hope this young man gets that lottery position pick, and the MONEY that goes along with it! He went out and earned/proved his way to that top 10 pick!
Marlin, recruited this guy when he was a NO star, coached him up, hooked him up with team USA, and the young man earned it ALL. I hope he stays the awesome humble but confident young man that he is now, and does not let the money and fast life get to his person!
Bob Marlin, the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, sees a pattern to Payton's career.
"He came to us and he was given an opportunity," Marlin says. "He took advantage of it. He got in the trials in Colorado Springs, and Billy [Donovan] and those guys [with the national team] kept him. He took advantage of that opportunity, and he played with the best 19-year-olds in the world and it gave him a ton of confidence, obviously.
"So when people ask me if he's going to take advantage of this opportunity in the NBA, I don't think there's any doubt. He's done it every time, and he's such a young kid."

It will be cool to see him evolve as a player and a person. You watch him interview 5 years from now and you wont know who this guy is.

Said Elfrid reminds him of "The Glove" Gary Payton. If we at a bigger school he would be a lock for top 5 pick. Needs work on shooting and strength. Led nation in free throws. Thinks 8th at Sacramento. Told story of U-19 experience.
