    Default Bill Crist, Physical Plant

Interview with Bill Crist is up... even those of you in the know will be surprised how much there is going on in campus construction.

Yesterday was an interview with Guitar Professor Jeff George, also on the front page.

"We're excited that because of increased funding, the new administration is funding our work so that we can not only maintain, but improve and enhance the campus."

    "increased funding"

    What's the story behind this?

T-Joe was working to bring all schools up when he was Commish; some of those increases are now getting to the point that we can look at maintenance. Tuitions are going up. And Ken Ardoin also worked to get us more funds in the last session for some construction.

Were these funds that were specifically marked for UL only, or something extra for the UL System. You know how they like the ol' "if we give to you, we ahve to give to everyone" saying. Also, was this part of a specific bill, or was it just part of the annual education budgeting?

    FYI,
The funding was specificall for U L and not the system as per Ken Ardoin for the upgrading and maintaining the campus and dorms etc!

I thought too that overall funing for higher education in Louisiana had increased under the previous gubernatorial adminstration and that would continue under the current adminsitration.

Has anyone seen drawings or plans for the student union renovation? I read where that could begin this semster. The only time I ever used the union was to go to the bookstore. It's attractive from the side that opens onto Cypress Lake, but the inside is terrible as is the side that looks onto McKinley St.. I know they are planning to tear down the biggest abominations on campus as well (Corrona and Olivier), and open up Cypress Lake to Hebrard. I'm just curious as to what we can expect, and hope it will be something to be proud of.

PLEASE FUN---tell us why and how our tuition got to be about $1100 bucks below UNO and Tech--If we had that amount per student it would be around 18 million a year more in income---if we are at the same level--why not the same tuition?????

I recall there was talk of a state representative or senator out of New Iberia who blocked our requests for additional tuition increases. Pandering to the less affluent citizens IMO. Good news to the poor, but of course they never explain how lowering the cost of an education can also decrease the value of that diploma.
