YEESH! NOT GOOD!
Ashley Brignac confirmed two things on Monday:
She is currently trying to rehab a tear in the labrum of her pitching shoulder;
And no matter the outcome, the career for the star UL softball player is not in jeopardy.
That was the gist of an exclusive interview with the Daily Advertiser by last year's record-setting freshman.
"When you play at the highest level, things (physically) can go wrong," Brignac said. "I am optimistic, but this is my shoulder, and that makes this serious.
"Just let people know this isn't the end ... my career is not over. I'm not dying."

I talked to Steph today and she stated that Ashley was playing SS, not pitching. They are not overly concerned as she stated that it was muscular rather than in the joint or a specific ligament damage. What I loved hearing was that they had all of Ashley's best interest at heart. She stated that they are going to be very careful and not push anything. Her opinion is that if it is more serious, we have some great pitchers here and we're going to do what we have to to get her healthy.

You are correct and for the record, it was Brignacs choice to play this summer. The Lotiefs had asked that she take it easy, thus her playing SS. This story in fact has been a major over-hype, her private physician is not allowed to speak to anyone about her medical information because of Hippa Laws. This Shoulder Specialist from Texas is not an orthopedic surgeon and is not qualified to give a opinion on her pitching motion.
Donna B. is pitching in the national tournament this week in Oklahoma City for her travel team and has done extremely well.
I think the DA got the facts needed to quiet all the rumors about Brignac's career being over - and was the first media outlet to do so.
Brignac might need surgery, which would require 4-to-9 months of rehab. Pretty big deal based on her reputation, production and potential.
Not debating that it is a story, the question is was it misleading? Might need surgery? Her physician has told her no such thing as per today. Ashley should have made it clear that it is not an option at this point. Her father made that clear. Certainly news, but speculation at this time.
T, Brignac mentioned in the story that surgery might be needed. So that wasn't something thrown in by the writer.
If that's what she said it's a journalist's job to report it.
We reported there's a possibility of surgery because she said there is.
It's not speculation when a source brings it up.
