Thread: Opponents view: Creighton preparing for Louisiana's speed

  1. Default Opponents view: Creighton preparing for Louisiana's speed

Creighton knows its opening assignment in this season’s NCAA tournament presents a different challenge than its previous two.

Alabama and Cincinnati, the teams the Bluejays faced in their first games of the past two tournaments, excelled in a basketball version of hand-to-hand combat. Both wanted to keep the possessions low and the bruises high.

Long also has blocked 89 shots this season — as a team, Creighton has 46 blocks.

I was very surprised to see that they wanted and liked to play uptempo. I never figured Creighton was a team that wanted to get up and down as much as they are not overly athletic. I still think we are going to have a speed advantage on the perimeter though and we will have to use it.

There is no mistake that to win this game, Long will have to accel on the interior and stay on the court without getting into foul trouble and Rimmer and/or Mbamalu will have to hit outside shots like they did in the conference tourney.
