He filled in the blanks during the interview. You don't tell BCS programs that you are not ready to commit, unless you are in the top ten recruits at your position. They were recruiting athletes of his caliber or better, they didn't need to wait on his answer. He is as good as advertised.
As for his speed, keep in mind he played 5A football in Texas. That is the best of the best, and his district was very good. He played against some very good athletes,so it's not surprising that he was caught from behind in the video. Check out how many athletes from the district are playing football at the college level this fall.
Yeah, I followed the last 3-5 months of recruitment and just prayed we would get him. I was sure he was going to commit to UCLA when he took the late visit but he committed to UL shortly after and that was a great day. I sure hope he decides to come back. I really like what he gives us.
I think Deon Wallace should stay at UL just think about this cajun fans having Tyrell & Yobes in The back feild with Deon as a slot WR. Who will(other teams) they key on? Tyrell = Duce McAllister,Yobes Walker= Pierre Thomas and Deon=Reggie Bush. this will open up alot of things Mike Des will have many options. Now other teams just can't key on Tyrell. Deon playing slot any LB that covers him he will burn them for big plays. Teams won't be able to sleep on WR D.Smith, J.Chery and TE E.Jones. Then Mike will set it of ya heard me.
Even with scholarship offers to play football at Alabama and Texas A&M, Yobes Walker realized he needed more time to make an informed decision.
Then both schools pulled their offers in January because they got tired of waiting.
In the end, an old friend helped the standout running back from Brazoswood High outside of Houston get his chance to play NCAA Division I football. Walker confirmed with The Daily Advertiser on Wednesday that he will report to UL's campus on Sunday for the start of preseason camp.

This story just goes to show how this whole recruiting thing can be totally crazy. Who'da thunk we would bring in a signee like this at this point in time?
Folks would have been ecstatic if he had signed in February and been part of the 2008 recruiting class back then when we were lamenting the loss of an RB or two to other programs.
Way to go UL coaching staff.

Yep, I am pretty sure we did better than the ones that got away to Moanrow. I think there is, or was some concerns that a guy this good could be available this late. It turns out mostly to be the fact that he passed up good opportunities when offered. Kind of like passing up a good parking spot looking for a better one only to see the guy behind you take the one you passed up. In this case he is parked at the mall entrance, all be it a strip mall.
Kudos to News Copy for being first on the scene.
nice when things work out for good.. !
although it caused me some thought as to why we didn't offer him back then..?
I don't know that he was even on our radar screen last recruiting season. I know we recruited a couple of RB prospects hard including one who signed with ULM and we supposedly had Beal in the fold but he ended up going to UNM after his eligibility status was finally untangled at the NCAA.
was it a thought of him being recruited by bigger schools and had no chance? out of cajuns league? or didn't think he was good enough? _
That wasn't the case when we recruited Wallace who was also courted by some well known programs. I'm guessing recent events like Beal signing elsewhere and Wallace's status and a UL coach having good contacts in Texas and Walker being available had more to do with it.
