He's a bigger back and more physical and he could possibly be converted to OLB which is where we had projected him through his initial recruitment. If he's got a good work ethic, I'd have no problem talking with him. Heck, it'll be a year before he's eligible anyway. _
The question is not a matter of punishing him for making a personal decision, but his eligibility. If he has only two years left after sitting out a year coming back to UL, then is it worth just having him for two years? We don't need a two year athlete at RB or LB, when we sign a high school athlete and have them for four or five years. If he can play three years, then it's entirely different matter.

T, you're right. The question is whether the coaching staff believes Beal is worth a scholarship if he only has two years. He'd basically be a JUCO guy. I think he would only have two years to play after sitting out next season.

when was the last time a player wished he would have come to UL? I guess it shows the success we're having! Good things are coming too. Kids will want to play here

Hello there, I am new here and I am glad I found this forum (due to having time).
Anyway, in ultoday.com on Beal, the Lobos is 4-6 not 5-5.

Hopefully this post goes to the right place...

  6. UL Football Re: Coach: Beal headed to UL

Apparently, former UL football recruit Louis Beal wants to be a Ragin' Cajun.

That was the subject of an e-mail sent to The Daily Advertiser on Thursday by Beal, a redshirt freshman defensive back at the University of New Mexico. The news was first reported at theadvertiser.com.

"I'm coming to Louisiana," Beal wrote in the e-mail.

Attempts to get further comment from Beal, who committed to UL in April before going to UNM, were unsuccessful on Thursday night.

I'm assuming that they'll want to keep him at LB, so if he is, who will be a senior next season that would be starting? Beal has to sit out til 2010 or do you think that Beal is projected to be a backup with who we have now?

So Beal is apparantly making the right decision later rather than sooner. At least it's the "right decision" imho. Tought being 18-20 year old sometimes. I just wish he was a big ole DT. lol!

Especially since technically he will have been out of football for almost 3 years by the time he takes the field for us. He RS last year at a JUCO. I'm assuming he saw the field at UNM, but only in maybe 8 or so games, maximum. (I would imagine that if he's making this decision right now, then he's not playing with UNM for the rest of the season.) And then he'll sit out next season.

I'm curious if RB will allow him to come here with the condition that he'll pay his own way the first year while he sits out, and give him a scholarship next year when he's eligible again. Especially since we have a reduced # of them to use this year.

    5-5? 5-5? Where did you get 5-5?

    It says 4-6...

Gotta love electronic media. And to think I passed Calculus.

    Thanks for the feedback.
