Thread: Steroids bust St. Landry Parish

  1. Training Steroids bust St. Landry Parish

News of a St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department bust of an alleged steroids ring that identified approximately 100 users - including several high school football players - caught area coaches by surprise Tuesday as they were preparing to head to Baton Rouge for the annual Louisiana High School Coaches' Association clinic.

"I'm floored," Opelousas High coach Mickey Autrey said. "I'm caught off guard. I think it's been suspected that some kids do it, but I think it was wishful thinking on our part that it wasn't happening in our schools.

"I hope it's not any of our kids. That could be devastating for any program."

The bust involved health club gyms in Opelousas, Eunice and Krotz Springs.

I also had a few friends in High School that juiced. Theres no amount of PSA's with former juiced players coming on TV telling you it's bad, to get a 15 year old linebacker/slugger to stop if they are producing on the field. These kids take one cycle and they get bigger, stronger, their mucles are more defined, they get girls, etc.... They are young and careless when it comes to steroids and they don't care what they do, they are living for that moment and the opportunity to play big time ball. I'm not surprised at all. I can't sit here and say had I played baseball or football in high school that i wouldn't have tried it. It's easy to get, and the casual sports fan would probably be shocked as to how many high school and juco kids actually use.

Couldn't agree with you more. When your in high school you don't think anything can hurt you especially when it has the perks that juicing gives you. It would be hard to convince a 16 years old that those perks are short lived however. I'm not going to give a percentage of how many people I played football with that were on Steroids or other drugs because the # would not be completely accurate but I know with the team I personally was on that the number would be huge. And that is only for the 1 sport I played I know that every sport had the same issues that football had.
