Thread: Commentary: Investments could make UL a true 'destination school'

  1. Alumni Commentary: Investments could make UL a true 'destination school'

I graduated high school in 1972 from a military school in Tennessee. UL never made it onto my short list of prospective colleges for a several reasons. It was too close to home, too much of a small step culturally and personally for the rock and roller I fantasized myself to be. My brothers were both down at Tulane, so I made the rogue choice of LSU. Big mistake. LSU was huge, factory-like, anonymous, and way too frat-and-football infatuated for the hippie guitarist I was turning out to be. I found myself next semester down in funky New Orleans, enrolled at Tulane.

I foundered academically, withdrawing in 1974 to enter the work force. Fast forward 11 years to 1985 when I moved getting a college education back onto my radar screen. UL now seemed ideal.
