The old scoreboard that's coming down would be a great spot for the one aTm is getting rid of!!
The Texas A&M board is not so old, but needs to be changed because they are bowling in the stadium. Here is what it looks like. How do you think that would look at Cajun Field? I'll bet that is larger than LSU's.

Interesting. When was this scoreboard first built? Could this be the definitive proof that Cajun Field was THE first Swamp?

Before that they had the back white with welcome to the swamp and an actual swamp mural painted, and a notation for being 2' below sea level

I think the first season was either 1971 or 1972. I started college in the Fall of 1972 and all of our football games when I was in school were at Cajun Field.

Gotcha. So I'm guessing the references to "The Swamp" were first used around that time?

Would be cool to see some old photos of the back of the scoreboard that dms4720 was referring to.

For the first 17 years, Louisiana's football stadium was simply known as Cajun Field. In the summer of 1988, then-Strength & Conditioning Coach Mickey Faulkinberry suggested referring to Cajun Field as "The Swamp".

End of 1991 Season: Head Coach Steve Spurrier tags Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field "The Swamp"…Spurrier says, "The Swamp is where Gators live. We feel comfortable there, but we hope our opponents feel tentative. A swamp is hot and sticky and can be dangerous."

Not sure when the old scoreboard was first installed but it was "state of the art" during the football season of 1976. Cajuns went 9-2 that year with probably on one if its most talented rosters of all time. The highlight film "Spirit of 76" from that year shows several shots of the scoreboard in action.

Cajuns sweep Monroe in baseball, take 2 of 3 from Oklahoma in Softball, Basketball is going to the NCAA tournament and the old scoreboard is almost gone today (Sunday). It's good to be a Cajun Fan.

Many good things happening in Cajun Land. things aren't perfect, never are, but we have much to be thankful of as fans.

They should have put the game on a big screen at Cajun Field. After the big win we would have torn down that old score board for free and carried it to Pete's
