Thread: Three Ragin' Cajuns Named Pre-Season All-SBC

  1. UL Football Three Ragin' Cajuns Named Pre-Season All-SBC

NEW ORLEANS – With the start of college football around the corner, the Sun Belt Conference is set to host its annual media days on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. The first order of business by the conference was to announce the pre-season football team as voted on by the SBC-member coaches and select members of the media.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns garnered three players to that list – senior running back Tyrell Fenroy, junior center Chris Fisher and senior kicker Drew Edmiston.

Fenroy is a three-time All-Sun Belt selection. He became the first player in Sun Belt history to record three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons and enters the 2008 season with just four career fumbles lost in 618 career touches (582 rush/36 rec). Fenroy is second in the nation among active running backs with 3,271 career rushing yards. He is the nation’s only active three-time 1,000-yard running back and just one of 16 players in NCAA history to accomplish that feat by their junior season. Fenroy looks to become just the seventh player in NCAA history to post four 1,000-yard seasons. He is 64 yards behind Brian Mitchell for the most rushing yards in school history and 164 yards from Brandon Stokley’s school mark for combined rushing & receiving yards in a career. In addition, Fenroy is 779 rushing yards shy of the Sun Belt Conference career rushing record (Patrick Cobbs, North Texas – 4,050).

Fisher was named to the 2008 Rimington Trophy Watch List, an award given to the best center in the nation. He was an All-Sun Belt member last season as a sophomore and tabbed a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News two seasons ago. Fisher has helped the Cajuns offense to 5,283 rushing yards and 43 rushing touchdowns over the last two seasons. He has 20 career starts and was a vital part of the Cajuns offensive line last season that paved the way for the Sun Belt’s first-ever 3,000-yard rushing team (3,019). The Cajuns 251.6 rushing yards per game ranked 7th nationally and first in the SBC by more than 500 yards. UL averaged a Sun Belt-record 5.6 yards per carry en route to producing two 1,000-yard rushers. UL ranked 19th in the NCAA in fewest sacks allowed.

Edmiston is a two-time All-Sun Belt selection. He is 11-for-12 in his career at Cajun Field and was one of only two kickers perfect in field goals during Sun Belt play last season. Edmiston finished second among SBC kickers in field goal percentage. He appeared in all 12 games as the Cajuns placekicker and missed only three field goals for the second straight season. Edmiston did not miss any kicks from 40 yards or less.
