  Softball Set for Annual Golf Tournament Monday, Aug. 18 at Le Triomphe.

UL - Louisiana’s softball team is preparing for their annual Lady Cajuns softball Golf Scramble. Join players and coaches of the 2008 Women’s College World Series team for their annual fund raiser at Le Triomphe on Aug. 18.

The event is a four-person scramble with all of the proceeds going to help Louisiana’s nationally ranked softball team. The golf tournament begins at 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 18 with a shotgun start at Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club in Broussard, La.

The Lady Cajuns softball Golf Scramble is $250 per entry or $1,000 for a four-person team. Plenty of food and drinks will be available for the golfers.

Sponsorships for the event are still available and include hole sponsorships, tee box signage, as well as, title sponsorships.

Every player will receive a goody bag with valuable Ragin’ Cajuns merchandise. There will be prizes for the top three finishing teams, closest to the hole and longest drive. The teams will be listed in the 2009 softball media guide, as well as, posted at Alfred and Helen Lamson Lady Cajuns softball Park.

In addition, there will be a silent auction that will feature 2008 Women’s College World Series memorabilia available to bid on.

Money raised from the golf tournament goes directly to the UL softball team to help the players and coaches maintain their national prominence.

The Cajuns finished the 2008 season ranked No. 6 with a 52-15 overall record. UL ranked in the NCAA’s top 25 in home runs per game, runs scored per game, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, batting average, ERA and fielding percentage.

Over the years, the softball team has made 17 NCAA Regional appearances, including 10 consecutive appearances. The Ragin’ Cajuns competed in the 2008 Women’s College World Series, marking the fifth time in program history the Cajuns advanced to softball’s pinnacle.

The Cajuns have boasted 26 consecutive winning seasons and have amassed over 1,100 victories. UL has won seven regular season Sun Belt Conference titles with eight SBC Tournament championships, including both the regular season and tournament honors in 2008.

Throughout their history, the Cajuns have boasted 36 NFCA All-Americans and compiled 47 All-Sun Belt selections.
