I stand corrected! Almost no one calls us Louisiana outside of Lafayette.
Where you see progress, I see none. The only times I saw the national media call us Louisiana were 5+ years ago. All I see now is LA Laf, UL Laf or some other bastardization.
I admit the Lafayette area has made great strides in the past few years, but that has not translated to other areas. Unlike some I am not consumed with the name thing. I would trade a 9-3 season in exchange for going back to USL.
You mentioned a sloooowww process....that is not how it is going to happen. In our current situation we are Louisiana Lafayette. Only a formal announcement by the University will get us the name we all want. It will then happen overnight!!
Would love to continue this discission, but I will be out of pocket for a couple of weeks. I am going to Alaska sans wife and kids.
There is a guy in Houston (Randy Guilbeaux) who keeps track everytime someone outside of Lafayette calls us Louisiiana, it is more extensive than you think. Of course he counts the scoreboard at Rice for this year's baseball game saying Louisiana on his list. He should post the list one day. I would also take a 9 and 3 season for just about anything regarding the name. I am ready to have some fun.
I want it all, I tell you, I want it all of it.
No reason why we can't talk about building a winner on the field and also the use popular names WE prefer, not those others decided for us. It's too different things.
From the news coming out of the Cajun athletic department, there's a lot of good stuff to talk about. It wasn't long ago that all I saw were questions like
"Where's the (fill in blank)?
Weren't we supposed to (fill in the blank)
What happened to the (fill in the blank)?
Now I'm seeing the answers.
