IMO, whenever you get something like that, send an e-mail to Doctor Savoie letting him know you really would like to support the university, but are not happy with this and will postpone any serious donations until this activity stops, and also cc one to the foundation.
The media calls us what we tell them to call us. And, right now, that is a very mixed message from UL athletics. Our website is mixed with UL, Louisiana, Louisiana Lafayette, Ragin Cajuns, Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns and Cajuns. Until we decide that, like Texas is officially the University of Texas at Austin or Nebraska is the University of Nebraska Lincoln or Wisconsin is the University of Wisconsin Madison, we are Louisiana. Our SID needs to make a simple statement that "We are the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Athletically, please call us Louisiana and UL." And, quit using Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns. That has no tie-in to the university. We are our own worse enemy when it comes to our name. It is time for Dr. S to right the ship.
I'm pretty sure the problem starts with Julie Dronet in Logos and Licensing. She is the one who restricts use of names and logos to various media outlets. It needs to be her job to contact the Athletic Dept. and the media and request that they only use certain names and logos. This is with the understanding that Athletics needs to take the initiative and hold a meeting w/ the Logos and Licensing Dept. to downsize the numerous names that are used.
