I am always harping about our name and the various names we are called or even call ourselves, all of which continues an identity problem for us and just continues to strenghten our recognition as Louisiana Lafayette.
Well, yesterday I received the UL Foundation publication in the mail. And, guess what we call ourselves on the front cover and throughout most of the publication, the University of Louisiana Lafayette? I thought our official name was the University of Louisiana at Lafayette? The report is sprinkled with UL Lafayette and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, but the predominant usage is the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
We have local media calling us UL and Louisiana. Our athletic website is starting to use UL and Louisiana more and more, although the website is still a mixed bag of names that includes Louisiana Lafayette. So, outside of Lafayette, we are still Louisiana Lafayette. Now, one of the universities key publications calls us the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Geez!! Maybe I am the only one who gets riled up over this, but it gets rediculous and is frustrating to me. I sure hope Dr. S takes a position on a consistent use of our name going forward. I don't care that we are the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, as long as athletically we are UL and Louisiana. But, academically, our university should at least get our name right. Doesn't anyone proof these things?
The report also states that the Foundation's total assets are a little over $136,000,000. I thought we had surpassed $150,000,000.
