Thread: Final: Louisiana (77) at Arkansas State (76)

Guys who say the team should be playing better have some legitimate points and in many ways they are right. Free throw shooting is of course an issue. We also have been too inconsistent on defense in my view as too many guys are getting to the rim and lots of open threes recently. However, keep in mind that the last two losses were on the road and the games were competitive. We also have some personnel limitations inside as Elridge Moore cannot score and Davenport lacks athletic ability. Almost ALL road games look like the one tonight. When you win one, you generally steal it and that is what happened at Texas State and at ASU. Games against WKU and Ga. State were ones we could not steal. In D1 games, team was 17 and 11 this year which is great improvement from the past and things are looking up due to having lots of guys back and a strong recruiting class coming in. Road problems aside, in the recent home games we have been killing people. Let's make the tournament games in New Orleans like a home game. I am guessing we will play UTA Friday night but ULM is of course capable of winning on Thursday. If we do play UTA, look for it to be high scoring as the Mavs love to push the pace. Two times we played them this year had lots of exciting plays and I expect the same Friday night.

You are correct Mike. I enjoyed the Hell out of this win. Because I stated that this team should be playing better takes nothing away from that fact. It was simply a critical observation. You have known me and known of me for a long time and you know where I stand. Geaux cajuns

The last 3 years, 7% of our fball wins came against FCS schools and have been proudly claimed in our 3, 9 win seasons. Should we win 10 games next year, no one will put an asterisk next to 10 for a win over Southern... IMO, 20 bball wins should be bragged about equally when those 3 non-D1 victories totaled only 9% of our schedule (and that percentage will lower after tournament).

NO, not the same thing at all. Those Div. III are not equivalent to 1AA teams. And you only get to count those 1AA wins every other year for a bowl, the NCAA does not even consider a Div. III win towards possible seeding in the big dance. It is as though you simply did not play that game. AA teams have full scholarships, Div III not. Coaching, support lots of things. UNeaux went from being a pretty good 1A program to being awful after only one season in non 1A because of those issues.

Of course I would not want to lose those games, but I certainly can see our program being better looked at with three more wins, say ULM, USA, and UALR and not even playing those games. Twenty real wins instead of twenty-three phantom wins, and complaining about seeding, 'hell we won twenty-three games what is this 15 seed'?

OK ...here are the facts as I see them.....after 2 awful seasons we may have turned the corner. This season is a vast improvement over the last 2 and yes this team is capable of winning the Conference Tourney. But they will have to play consistently better than last night to do it......hope that wasn't too negative for anyone..

Good points, but like Turbine always says about bowl games, who the hell is gonna remember who we played in 3 years when we brag about winning 3 bowl games in a row?? Same with this, in 2 years when recruiting, whose gonna remember who we played when saying we won 20+ games in 2014?

I just look at it this way: FCS football games BETTER be chalked up as a win before the season and when the clock hits 0:00, our winning percentage goes up. Same with this, it's chalked up as a win being its on the schedule.

I guess we shouk stop playing the guys on our early season schedule and start playing real powerhouses like Savannah State, North Florida or Jacksonville. I'm sure we would get slaughtered in the polls for that.

    Like Florida
