Puggy ran for governor in the early 70's and got about 6000 or 7000 votes(he must have had something on them). During a debate he accused Edwin Edwards of being a homosexual. Edwin walked over and planted a big juicy one on his cheek. That left "Ole Puggy" speechless.
Another name I recall was the Wyatt Earp (of someplace or another).

I tried never to miss his show. It was truly one of a kind and hilarious.

I also enjoyed the old local Canal Gazoleen commercials that featured Cody Dupre. Giveways included Fiesta Children's Chairs and ladies pantahose.

JC Politz did a stint in Lafayette TV as a sportscaster for a short while back then and he had a character he used from time to time in his shows. He called him the "crazy professor" or the "nutty professor" or something like that. I recall maybe a connection to "UPI", the University of Pecan Island.

I hear that they are a sister school of our great "flagship" institution.

"Mavis" at Dwyer's? I noticed that this article was written by "the staff at the independent", probably a "bunch of Yankees from north of Ville Platte" I'm from Lafayette, and can't relate to most of this article.

I do remember getting busted by Dan Tucker, one of my geology instructors, while at U(S)L for missing a morning class after a late Wed. night at Bon Temp. I very seldem ever missed (neither class or Bon Temp). I went into his office late that afternoon to get some material that he had handed out and let him know that I was not feeling good, a virus or something. He was very sympathetic, gave me what I needed, then said,..."Oh, next time you're not feeling well and come to visit after you missed my class for being ill, don't forget to wash off the "Bon Temp" stamp on your hand." He smiled and I walked out of there with my tail between my legs!!

By the way, You know you're from Lafayette if "Myrtis" from Dwyer's told you that she could not wait to get off of work to go home and drink a carton of Schitz (sp) on her front porch!!

Wyatt Earp must have been a sheriff or police chief that he had a run in with. Louie Michot was the owner of Burger Chef and a State representative at the time. He was not liked by Ole Puggy because Louie was a Republican.

    Canal Gazolene from Church Pointe.

JC Politz had a great TV presence and a very good relationship with Russ Faulkinberry. He would have the weekly football predictions for all the state schools like TwoLane and AL-SU. JC was strange.

I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one that didn't get a lot of these. I'm 25, lafayette born and raised and was scratching my head on these. Overall I wasn't that impressed. The little jabs at UL didn't really help either.

I think that Puggy also refered to Edwin as "Tweety Bird" maybe cause he saw him one time in a yellow suit!!!!!

    GEAUX UL!
If there is any offense, it's because there are so many UL grads in town that don't know our schedule.

Or didn't you notice that our average attendance hovers around 15K?

I'll give you, the second one though is sheer lunacy.

...you know the phone number for Diesel Driving Academy and can sing the entire theme song.

(Maybe not totally a Lafayette thing, but definitely a Louisiana thing)

I live in BR and visit Lafayette for what really matters - Ragin' Cajun games.

Here's a couple more from when I did live there.

You go "make groceries" instead of shopping for them.

When exiting your car you "get down" not out.
