Louisiana Law makes fleur-de-lis an official state symbol

Law makes fleur-de-lis an official state symbol

Gov. Bobby Jindal signed legislation into law Tuesday to make the fleur-de-lis an official state symbol.

State Rep. Nickie Monica said the fleur-de-lis bill was important despite criticism otherwise.

Monica, R-LaPlace, said he weathered charges of authoring insignificant legislation for sponsoring House Bill 455.

“What I wanted to do is to make people proud of the fleur-de-lis,” he said.

The bill allows the fleur-de-lis to be used on official state documents.

Monica said he agreed to make it “a” symbol rather than “the” state symbol.

“I didn’t want to knock the pelican off the state flag,” he said.

Monica noted that the fleur-de-lis became a symbol of hope after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He said it also points to the state’s French heritage.

Webster’s dictionary defines the lily emblem as “the coat of arms of the former French royal family.”

I bet the proponents up north of the "fluer-de-lies" are disappointed.

Nickie Monica, a first time state representative, voted himself a huge salary increase. Never acknowledged my request to him to prevent this.

He also destroyed LaPlace as parish president in his zeal to bring in Katrina victims into our parish without the infrastructure, POLICE, and other support needed for a displaced low income group. We now have home invasions, armed robbery, and on and on every day.

Any legislation he supports is about himself. He is a typical RHINO.

Don't know too much about St James, but St John is the official Andouille capital of the world.

The competing cousins Jacob, http://www.cajunsausage.com/, and and Bailey,http://www.baileysandouille.com/

I understand Mr. Monica shops both places making sure everybody knows he provided extreme havens to Katrina Victims even as we are being robbed, raped, and plundered by many of our newest residents.

It's a matter of taste, but I prefer Jacobs.

You vote for the White Simms, and I will vote for the Red Simms, it is a free dictatorship. IOW the two are almost identical. Still Bailey clear wraps his, while Jacob uses butcher paper. On day one no difference, but if you are storing them Bialey will hold up a little longer.

My mistake I meant to refer to St John Parish andouille.

I find this entire thread to be useless.

Many of the posters on this board have clearly voiced their opposition to anything that could be associated with the "state of Louisiana"

"Fleur-de-lis? C'mon man, it's a flower. We can't have that associated with this school. It's soooooo gay."

"Catahoula dog? Who cares if it's the state dog. We have a great mascot already in that large, silly-looking, flaming vegetable."

    Y'know. Stuff like that.

The Cajun's ancestors the Cadiens are turning over in their grave.

So exactly who in football puts flowers on their football helmets?
