Thread: Ryan McCoy's Game is Eye Catching

  1. UL Basketball Ryan McCoy's Game is Eye Catching

UL swingman Chris Gradnigo has been impressed with the play of his teammates this summer in pick-up games on campus. But no player has caught his eye more than junior Ryan McCoy, a 6-foot point guard who signed with North Texas in April 2007 but sat out last season for personal reasons.

McCoy is expected to share playing time next season with returning starter Randell Daigle.

"He's very, very quick and has great vision," Gradnigo said. "Everybody we have brings something different (to the floor), and he's the point guard that we need."

UL Basketball Re: McCoy catches the eye of Gradnigo

I have also heard good things about McCoy. In even better news I heard Gradnigo has showed that he is ready to commit to this team and give 100% next year. He is running at the UL track almost every day during the week and I've heard he's constantly in the gym.

I like Coach Lee and believe he is a good coach but he must show great improvement this year. He has all of his key players returning, as well as filled a few holes, and I don't think we will be calling for his head in March. I think we will be watching the Cajuns in March.

But for now football approaches and I will put my excitement for Cajun basketball on hold.

If anyone wants to talk about "making plays" and how it's defined, just put a video of McCoy nailing Corey Leonard on his 3 yard line next to the term in the dictionary.

That play was as big as any in the game - maybe this season. And yes, I know we've had some huge plays this season.

He nailed him at the "1"

I questioned the spot at the time and Pirogue said they must have given him forward momentum . . . LOL

I've been wondering why he hasn't played more all year. I think moving him to LB was one of the best moves coach Bustle has made. He plays with a lot of heart, is athletic and really adds speed to the position. He's only a Soph so he can still put on an additional 10-15 pounds to make a decent sized OLB. He's truly one of my favorite players.

  9. UL Football McCoy Named Sun Belt Defensive POW

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns sophomore linebacker Daylon McCoy was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.

McCoy was a major defensive factor in the Cajuns 28-23 victory over Arkansas State. He led the Cajuns defense in holding the ninth-best rushing attack in the nation to only 100 yards – 146 yards below their season per-game average.

McCoy also made several game changing plays. He stopped an ASU drive in the first quarter at the Cajuns 20-yard line by recovering a fumble. Late in the fourth quarter, it was his sack on second-and-six that created a third-and-18, ultimately leading to a three-and-out. The Cajuns offense got the ball with 3:34 remaining and subsequently mounted the game-winning scoring drive. McCoy finished the game with seven tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack and a fumble recovery.

McCoy is the first Cajuns underclassmen to be named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The Cajuns do not play this Saturday, returning to action on Nov. 1 versus Florida International. The homecoming game has been dubbed “Sellout the Swamp” to watch running back Tyrell Fenroy reach 1,000 rushing yards on the season in the University’s 1,000th football game.

Fenroy needs just 30 rushing yards to become only the seventh player in the NCAA football history to amass four 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Daylon McCoy came to UL as a linebacker out of high school but was undersized so they moved him to SS. He did not make the adjustment very well, but in the offseason he gaind 15 pounds and they moved him back to linebacker. He was 3A Definsive MVP in the state of Texas as a senior at linebacker. Thats pretty good considering that Texas probably has more 3A football teams than Louisiana has in all classes.

    Default Ryan McCoy ???

Did anyone see McCoy pouting like a 7 year old school boy? What's up with his dang attitude? He got his pocket picked while trying to do some kind of "skip-to-my-lou" AND 1 move and fell on the ground like he sprained his ankle. Coach Lee hooked him and he sat and cried like a little baby. We don't need that kind of attitude right now. We have great chemistry and positive attitudes with last years players....he better get his head in check or it'll screw up this whole team! Also, I didn't agree with one of our coaches missing the entire second half giving McCoy backrubs on the bench to cheer him up.....how old is he? He needs to swallow the tears and that attitude and play ball because he's gonna miss a good run with this team once we get our players back in December! Lastly, if I'm Lee, and he pulls that non-sense again I'd have him delivering apples and cotten candy with ol Cotten Candy Chris at next weeks home game....hey hey sweet candy! What a bum.......better fix that crap!

Forgot to mention that a coach handed McCoy a waterbottle and he in turn threw water directly at Coach Lee.................WOW!
