ZACHARY — Any junior golfer who shoots a combined score of 11-under-par during a two-day tournament typically has a good to chance to finish first.

It was not a typical day for Andrew Noto or at the Gulf States Junior PGA Championship.

Noto, of Luling, shot a 7-under 65 to open the tournament at Copper Mill Golf Club on Tuesday. But Wednesday belonged to 15-year-old Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Ala.

Wyatt carded 10 birdies and tied the course record with a 10-under 62 and ultimately edged Noto by one stroke for the overall title. Noto had a 4-under 68 and finished at 133, while Wyatt was at 132, including his opening round of 70.

“That’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had playing golf,” Noto, a former Hahnville High player bound for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said. “I’ve never played with anybody who had a round like that before. I didn’t lose — I got beat by a guy who played great. Sometimes that happens”
