Thread: Baseball field logistics

Just had a conversation with someone in the know and he said that they were looking at the property across the Coliseum Rd. form Blackham, the parking lot area. He said that the footprint of Tigue and more would fit there with all the parking needed. Just one site they are looking at. I can see the fly balls in back yards and roof tops now.

Sounds like there will be a whole group of roof people now if they build there.

I'm still not sure if i like taking an athletic facility out of the current athletic "area" I guess. I like how the baseball field is in the shadow of the Swamp. I like how everything is close. I think it is cool when i go to other University's and can see all of the athletic facilities right there together. The site that you are talking about is kind of out of the way. Also they will have to redo the road that runs parallel to cajundome blvd. (not sure of the name) but it is full of potholes that will swallow a small sedan. Not sure if i like that site. I'd rather it be by the Hilton and Lite center where it can be seen from Congress and has a good traffic flow from Cajundome Blvd if they are going to change locations.

I fell in love with the vertical logistics of 1 particular baseball field when driving by Nebraska's baseball field and being able to look down from the highway into the stadium.

I think a baseball field on Congress that is dug down to a level about 2' below sea level would be a field of dreams.

The University of Louisiana - the school with athletics complexes below sea level. Could be a catchy slogan.

Did I miss something?.. Is this a hypothetical thread or is something really in the works? If we are just dreaming here, then I'll go with the Hilton location with an overpass finally being built for pedestrians over congress..that's my wish

2' below sea level? Pumps better be working in case of a hard rain or you know what'll happen don't you?

I'm with you guys. I'm going to be happy with the new digs no matter where they put it, just because it will be new and will be deserved. However, if they move it, I just can't see putting it over there. but if that's what's in the cards and if that's what they think is best (for legitimate reasons and not just because it wouldn't require as much effort as another location), then so be it.

I'm not sure why they're considering this location because, as mentioned before, it would be a traffic nightmare and it would be so isolated from the rest of the facilities (I always thought softball was kinda isolated now). But the one intriguing thing about this is that it is university property that isn't currently being used. Even Blackham is only sporadically used, but that property could probably serve the school much better in a different capacity. To me, this kinda seems like it might be an effort to try to "connect" the campus with the athletic complex, which I would be all for, and would applaude. But, I guess I just always figured that if they'd use this parcel of land to try to connect the two, it would be with Student Housing, and not with the baseball stadium.

This is exciting though...thanks for the heads up Frenchie.

Agree with your comment about using that land for housing. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Since we're all dreaming, here's what I'd like to see happen:

    - New baseball stadium in the current tailgating/parking area between Cajun Field and Bertrand.

    - Move softball into the current Tigue.

    - Level the softball complex and use it for parking for Bourgeois Hall.

    - Add parking across Congress Street to replace what is lost with the new baseball stadium. Include a large grassy area for paid tailgating and a pedestrian overpass or underpass across Congress.
