I know I'm bias but this offense on paper looks better than anything we've had in years. No one on our schedule will shut us down completely; we just have to stop the bleeding on defense. This team could be the surprise SBC Champions.
In spring, they were talking that he'd need the entire summer and even into fall camp to get rehabbed completely. Second, I see Dean ahead of Lanier Coleman and possibly even ahead of Adams. I thought that Matt D. was going to FB, not TE? Also, I think Beal will be redshirted since we have a lot of depth at RB unless he is that good and they need him this year with Shankle out for the year. I still think that Fred Davis is going to start ahead of Burkhalter but I do agree with the previous comment. If this team gels on D, we could be the surprise team of the conference.
Zephyr I agree with many of your comments.
Dean may not start the first game but the little that I have seen him play on highlights and the all star game he can play for us right now. The guys I have ahead of him have alot of experience. He has a very bright future and I see him getting into the mix early.
Matt D seemed to me to be the ideal FB but from what I heard he was moved to TE.
Knowing Beal's history with academics if he is eligible he will play. It may be too much of a risk to redshirt him but I hope I am wrong.
Shankel redshirted last year. I remember him injuring his ankle, was it in the spring or fall last year?
Davis will play alot but I bet Burkhalter will start and get more plays.
Dean looked like a hoss in the Louisiana/Texas all-star game. He is an animal. I don't know if that translates into a start or substantial playing time this year, but I would not want to keep a guy that aggressive off the field. Osbourne looked good as well, but he is more of a developmental prospect IMO. I think Dean has immediate impact potential on our D.
Is Deon Wallace on the team? I know he was absent from at least a portion of Spring drills, but I didn't hear a reason. Glad he's back if so. If they utilize him properly (ala Reggie Bush out of the back field) he could really provide a lot of versatility for our offense, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why that didn't happen more last year because he was extremely effective when they did.
Wallace as was Derrick Smith sat out of spring drills to concentrate on academics although they were eligible. The coaching staff said they expect both to be ready to go for fall. These two sitting out is a great move by the staff. If they they needed the extra time to get ahead or catch up in the classroom this makes things that much easier next season and in the future. It also gave other players in the spring a chance to play. Shankle at RB (was injured though) and Kelley at WR looked good.
