  5. Default Cajuns End Streak

    Help Robichaux Reach Coaching Plateau

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team ends a ten game losing streak and defeats the Illinois-Chicago Flames 7-1 here at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field to take the final game of the series. Head Coach Tony Robichaux picks up win number 292 and becomes the all-time wins leader at Louisiana passing former Cajun skipper Mike Boulanger.

Cajun right-hander Jordy Templet received the start on the mound and didn’t disappoint. Templet pitched a complete game against the Flames and allowed just one run on two hits along the way while striking out nine batters and walking just two.

Illinois-Chicago scored the only run off Templet in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead on a RBI double to center field by Flames catcher Kevin Nelson.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning after Sport Voorhies was a hit by a pitch from UIC starter John Flood to open the inning. Voorhies eventually scored from third on a wild pitch by Flood to tie the game with one out in the inning.

The Cajuns added two more runs in the fifth inning when outfielder Corey Coles blasted his second homerun of the year into the pine trees in right field. Third baseman Matt Levering scored on the homer after walking to lead off the inning.

Templet shut down the Illinois-Chicago bats and retired 20 consecutive batters after giving up a two-out walk in the third inning.
