I was asked to start a food thread to help carry us forward to football season. Well, I'm starting a thread but not a food thread (I'm saving that for later when the flowers on the helment folks come out in full bloom).

This is a "dive" thread so you old timers take a trip down memory lane with me. You can comment on any I've listed or add your own. Add an asterisk if you barfed in it between the ages of 17-22.

definitely the anchor on scott rd. (cameron st.) and the underpass. you had to have your head on a swivel in both joints. they were just some of the places at that time where a 15 yr. old could buy a beer. if you mean the library on the strip, by the time i got there it was nick's. don't(can't) recall barfing. other places like ferdinand stutes where you could do your grocery shopping, get a haircut, get drunk, and get married w/o leaving the joint, dave's drive-in on jefferson(great curley q's and ice cold beer), and pop theriot's liquor store, also on jefferson were also hot spots for underage drinking. if you looked a little mature for your age, nobody hassled you for an id.

raoul, i saw dr. john one sun. night at willy purples/swinging machine. the place was right down on the river. behind where outback steak house is today. is that the same place? also, peaceful village and the stump gallery(the bulldog, now), and lock and key on pinhook.

Just hanging out along the strip - sometimes mid-week was like a weekend! I remember when streaking was in vogue and Dean Blanco had to come out to the strip to get the students back on campus! I think it was a Wed. night, too!
